WEnt to a high school that I haven't been to for a couple of years and scrounged up $1.52 before my leg gave out. Can't post pics as my scanner is acting up.

Ran into a couple of MD'ers there. One guy was in his eighties so there is hope for me. They had been there a spell and one guy had found 13 cents and the older guy 41 cents. I didn't have the heart to tell them that in the few minutes I had been there I had picked up 35 cents already. THey belonged to a tecting club and gave me the business card for it. It's the same one that Monte Von Berry was head of for a long time. One guy used a White and the older feller a 1350. The one guy told me of some hunts planned by the club and invited me to their meeting but I'm not much of a club joiner. He told me of a club hunt they had at a school outside of Portland where the total they pulled out of the school was $281. Seems a bit much for a school yard. That's one thing I have against clubs and their group hunts. They descend on an area and destroy it for anyone else to hunt.

As they were leaving the older feller came by to talk to me and asked how I was pulling my coins out of the ground. He noticed my 28-inch probe and wondered if I was digging them with it. I said that I was popping them out of the ground with a screwdriver. I noticed the look of dumb spread across his face as he asked how I done that and he didn't have a clue.. He also asked how I got coins at 3-4 inches and I told him by popping them with the screwdriver. He said he didn't know how to do that and had to dig holes for all his coins. I told him I very rarely dug holes for coins.

They left with little more than the aforementioned amount and most of the coins I found came from areas they had covered. I'll have to go back as I only covered a tiny area and I'm sure there are some more quarters there. There's a ton of pennies. They ruined the football field by installing astro turf. I left some targets that I couldn't locate right away and was to tired to fool with them.

WTG Bill! Teaching some of those puppies a few tricks is cool :). I guess you CAN teach those young bucks you ran into a trick or two. Glad you got out Bill

Bill, I might need to know your screw driver technique cause I dont seem to do well with one for poping coins. I use a hunting knife and it does well but I'm sure your screw driver makes smaller holes.....Tell me, show me.
Coming your way soon Bill to N. California and S. Oregon.

Hey a knife works okay and great for cutting plugs. I use a long probe to locate the coin then run the tip of the screwdriver down alongside the edge of the coin and past it a bit - then push the screwdriver handle down to the ground and pop the coin out. Sometimes the coin will fall back in the slit and you have to fish it out with the screwdriver or your finger. Then you step on the opening and it looks like you've never been there.

Another way to use the knife without making a hole is to probe and find the coin then cut a slit in the ground right alongside the coin and past it a bit. Move the knife side to side to widen the slit then use a screwdriver or other tool to reach in and flip the coin into the slit then fish it out. Step on the slit hard and it disappears.

Glad to see that you are getting out and about again Bill.
Yes there is still hope for you too. I went to my favourite spot last Saturday and invited a couple of fellas to hunt with me. One chap, who was swinging an old sovereign, is about to turn 80 as well. He is still very fit and detects at every opportunity. The other chap, I was trying to show him how to use a coin machine. Nothing seemed to sink in. I've taken him out on several hunts, but nothing seemed to sink in on those occassions either.
