THANKS FOR LOOKING

Not too, too bad for salt water conditions and the time it spent there.

This is the best condition of any of the "V's" that I have found at the shore.

Unfortunately I could not see any "L I B E R T Y" on the headband...next time..

really ..with hat ( optional ..I don't wear one..gets in the way of the headphones) .and gloves ( yup..need those) and a coat ( optional....three or four layers of long sleeved turtle necks do the same job as a coat) ..oh, and boots of course to slosh through those brisk troughs ... it's really great ( for me anyway) to detect at the beach in this weather...nice and brisk, great for the lungs, and clears the mind...nobody else on the beach detecting...(can't figure that one out..hmmmmm :rofl:) .. My detector detects right through snow and ice that has formed on top of the troughs........have I convinced you yet to take a trip to Ct. and detect here this winter?:rofl:

Is there something I may be missing here? I have to check that Red Book of coins and read up on this..

thanks for your post
Magz

the "CENTS" at the bottom of the "V" ..that's the one I have. ..maybe it didn't show up so well on the photo...here's another one;

Is this what you mean?

Also, I can't see a mintmark ..:thumbdown:

thanks
Magz

Early on, it became obvious that counterfiers tried to gold plate the nickels and pass them off as $5.00 gold pieces, so the mint added cents to the reverse, still, that is a very nice find..........

there is an "o" on the reverse...the article states that this means it was minted in Philadelphia...would you have any idea why the engraver didn't just put a "P" for Philadelphia on these coins? I have to check other coins to see if Philadelphia mints are designated with an "o" also on them.

I learned a lot from that site..thank you again....the "V" nickel is a beautiful coin..especially the ones pictured on that site.. but I'm certain that I'll never find one in that condition :(
