War of 1812 era Navy button

What a busy weekend! I had the In-laws in town for the holidays and my son was back from school. Two trips up to NY...I was wiped out but managed to sneak in an hour of detecting time yesterday. I wanted to get into the tall grass where I found the half reale last week. It was a good opportunity to see how the Eclipse 5.3 performed. I have not used it in more than a year! It works great! I was able to run with the RX at 15 with no problem and it gave me good depth. The first target I dug was the broken tombac button and it was at least 8 inches down. Not bad for the little coil! The convex navy button was fairly deep too. It has a strange backmark...No 4 / FINE GILT.

I always enjoy seeing your relics. Nice to hear that the small coil still gets some depth. I am thinking about trying to pick up a smaller coil for my VX and not sure which one to consider. I would like to have a nice pin pointing small coil for some of the trashier areas I detect. ot ready to pick one up yet but always trying to read and learn. Thanks, for posting.

That button is not too bad considering it is almost 200 years old.
