War Medal and a little silver

Tony N (Michigan)

Active member
Anyone know what date the war medal might be? Or anything about it? Dug it up today.
Haven't dug a silver quarter for a Loooooong time.
Both quarter and penny were in the same hole and both 1945.

Great digs Tony!
Keep us posted on medal info. I was able to dig a 43 q myself today first of the year.

Congrats Tony!!

The medal looks like a sons of the civil war medal from the 1860's. I looked up the following, (gratia dei servatus medal) which is what is written on the face of the medal, and google returns some other examples of the same medal. Great find!! Tim

Wow! That's cool.
Can't believe the medal still has the loop on it. Usually those rust away.

nice finds Tony how deep were penny and quarter and medal?
I probably should have measured with my probe. The quarter was about as deep as the blade to the hilt only my Lesche hand digger.
The penny would have been about 2 or so inches deeper. Most everything in this yard is hard to eek out. Gotta do a lot of really slow sweeps
to try to hear the coins then 360 degrees using the tip of the coil to try to find exactly where that coin is due to the iron nails and other trash.

The house is where I'm detecting. My twin brother lives upstairs and my sister lives downstairs. Tim and I were born on her birthday and my sister,
who is also a twin, owns the house.

Don't know what metal it is. Not quite silver?
The ring has a good weight to it. I thought the mark might be P. Could it be Palladium? or junk?

It's a cool feeing to see that nice shiny metal, huh? Makes the sport worth the effort.

What is interesting about my Explorer in this place is the icon takes forever and a day to move from iron, far upper left over
to the upper right of the screen. Maybe this is due to all the co-located iron surrounding the coin or relic? Sometimes as I'm
wiggling the coil back and forth just very small movements, I have to rapidly life up the coil and sometimes the cursor will move right. Most of the time I just have to go
by the high sounds because the cursor won't budge from the left. Sometimes it will give a really quick move over to the far upper right and
then hang out around the iron side.
