wanted you to see what my machine was doing

This machine was unstable and sent back to Garrett as Unusable as the numbers continued to change with each sweep on a shallow buried coin.

Mr. Waterdog,

Ironic you post this. I went out with my father today and we both had the Max. His machine was doing the same thing as yours and hates it. I have the feeling he may just go back to the Pro. (never did get to the ocean today but we did hit a couple of cellar holes - not a productive day by any means )

Mine does the same thing but it sometimes locks on and is pretty solid like from my second outing. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?79,2397052

I do wonder if I am missing targets due to the TID wavering / jumping. My father still has his Pro and I asked him to fire it up. I ran over the coins first with the Pro then the Max. (I was comparing TID by checking coins placed on top of his lawn) I will say he had a much more steady TID then the Max. The Max seems to flip the TID numbers more "fluid" than the Pro. The other thing I noticed on the Pro is how quite it runs. None of this electric zapping / crackling on iron. :smoke: Maybe Garrett can add a TID stabilization feature? :)

Keep us posted on your situation. Thanks for posting the video too.

Been a very long day. I'm tired :goodnight:

Mine is doing all the same things plus hunting today my headphones went to complete silence at times. 99% of the area was scratching and screeching with vid numbers very unstable. When I would hear a high among all of the scratching I would occasionaly get an 82-83 indicating a dime but it would not lock on. When I dug those high tones they were nails, I checked and rechecked the hole to make sure there was not a dime there I got unstable vdi's but no more high tones. At this time I've been thru two stock coils that were basically useless. I've been thru two sets of headphones acting exactly alike. I'm leaning towards a bum processor at this time.I've got about 20 hrs hunting time with my Max and am only satisfied with about an hrs performance out of it. I'm bummed at this time but will try and be patient and try every approach before I give up on it. Garrett has been exceptional in being supportive and trying to deal with the issues.

Almost sounds like every bodies Max's are doing the same thing, very sparky and jumpy tid. I wanted the Max for the possible extra depth it could have. Having to run 1/2 or less sen. then one can with the Pro defeats the extra depth purpose. HH jim tn

Chris if you could, repeat that test two ways. 1. set everything up the exact same do the test BUT at half the swing speed of the coil in the video.
2. set everything up the same except drop sens down two bars, then use your normal swing speed, then switch too half swing speed.

let us know what happens

I went back to the park I took the At max too. Only this time i took the At pro only ( At max went back to Garrett for a check up), The At pro sniffed out with steady numbers $8.72 in the time i had to spend there. I sure hope my At max come back with a clean bill of health, if not I'll put it on craigslist and keep the At pro.
HH
