Wanted Twins, So I Did A Trade In. Now I Will Have A Black Tejon & A Black Vaquero

I love my Tesoro Outlaw it's a great detector, but I just could not resist trading it in on a new Black Vaquero (more depth capability) to go along with my Black Tejon, now I have Twins... I love the new black color scheme on the detectors. I would have kept the Outlaw but four detectors is my limit for room in the house without the wife wanting to rough me up..Lol

I like will use both detectors depending on the day and the hunt. I really wanted the Vaquero for my smaller lighter travel unit or for days when I just want to swing a lighter unit. Also to take with me on our travel trailer trips when camping like I did with the Outlaw. Also now I will have one or the other as backup to the other on those all day hunts in those far away places we all seek out. ( A big plus here is they share the same coils)..Lol.

Hope your happy with it. I had a couple of vaqueros and I like them but I did not use them to their full potential and I always went back to the older brown box out of production units. I guess I am just somewhat nostalgic in that area. If you get the 5.75 DD coil for it, that is a nice combo for coin shooting at old houses. Good luck and keep us posted!!

I have had a Vaquero before a few years back and thought I needed this Fisher unit and sold it and ended up being sorry that I did.

I have the 11x8 RSD coil also the 5.75 concentric and the 8" doughnut coil in the 4 pin Delta for these detectors. I totally get what your saying but in some of the places I hunt I need the extra depth and performance the Tejon and the Vaquero detectors provide. The Vaquero or the Tejon with the 5.75 coil or even the 8" doughnut coil can be quite the coin machines in parks old and new and at old house sites. (The Outlaw did a fantastic job in parks and old hose sites but in some cases now and then may not have been getting the depth I needed). Its nice to have the extra performance if needed than to need it and not have it. I also know depth is not everything but with these old pounded sites it may give a old coin that was missed but again you got to get your coil over it.

Bill, I don't know if you ordered the high tone version or not...
For $15 (if you're the original owner), Tesoro can convert your Vaquero to a high tone version. I much prefer it to the standard Vaquero tone. Run the Tejon tone up high for a while, and see what you think. I hear soft, deeper targets better with the higher tone.

Thank you for the input and the advice.

My last Vaquero had the high tone mod and it was ok for me. I like the little lower more mid/high tone of the Outlaw better than the high tone I had on my first Vaquero. I don't know how the regular Vaquero standard tone will compare to the Outlaw but hope it is similar. For me and my hearing I like a lower or more mid/high tones compared to real high tones a little better. If I don't like the new standard Vaquero standard tone I will send it in to Rusty and have him give it a tweak.

What fisher did you think you needed? I did love the old Los Banos Fishers and had some of those. On the Vaquero and I am not sure if it is just me or my imagination, but I thought it sounded different than the brown box units. That is another reason why I like the older versions. I have not tried an Outlaw but it does have some appeal to me. Where I detect now in TN, the soil is pretty mild and most of the targets do not seem to be all that deep. About 4-6 inches on coins for the most part and civil war relics too. Where I grew up in TX, the soil had a ton of sand in it and the coins would sink alot deeper. If I still lived there, I would definitely want all the power I could get. I have not swung a Tejon but my friend has one. He uses it for relic hunting obviously and he does like it. I have messed around with it and it does feel very nice.

The Fisher detector was a Coinstrike.

Yes I agree on the Fisher Los Banos units. I have been to that facility two times back in there day a couple hour drive for me. They replaced a screen on my old CZ70 Pro new at the time under warranty. I just made an appointment and drove it up to them and waited for it to be repaired while they gave me a plant tour.

Nice information friend and I totally understand your like for the older brown box Tesoros.

Happy Hunting,
