Hi everyone i want to find out more on a long shaft that balances behind the elbow for my excal 1000 purchased in late 2005 as i cannot get one in Australia as i rang minelab direct ,and they dont stock them ,or for that matter never heard of them. Are they a after market item ? that someone has manufactured in the U.S.A. IF so can i get some information on a supplier an any other accessories to change to the long shaft it would be much appreciated. Craig from Lara Australia.

G' day mate! I use the Lightning Rod, but I believe what you are looking for is the Florida Straight shaft, which extends past the elbow, for better balance. Seems like that design would be poor in the water though and I would think it would hit you in the back on a sweep, at least in the water, savvy? I am sure it would be an improvement for wetsand or out of the water hunting though. Best of luck finding what you are lookinig for mate.

I have the straight shaft for my excal 1000 but instead of attaching the unit i purchased a web belt and drilled three holes and attached it on the right side of my waist, Now when im beach detecting for five hours at a time my arm never tires out.

If your want to purchase one look at Kellyco on the web, there in Orlando Fl

Good Luck

I too use the Lightning Rod which I got from Reillys Treasure Gold in Flordia. However I don't like the set up as you still have the wight on your arm, plus you need to insert your arm into the cuff each time you retreive a target.

I find it much better to hang my Excal from my neck and have the coil cable taped along the side of the shaft so it has more length. This takes a lot of weight off the arm. Included is a pic of my first neck harness made of wood. The newer one is a piece of 1" alum tubing with holes drilled for the bolts to hole the controls and battery pod. A neck strap completes the setup.

It does balance very nicely especially in the water but with some people (not everyone) it does hit them in the back on every sweep. I have both the Florida straight shaft and a regular straight shaft. The regular straight shaft I purchased from DeMarco Detector Sales, in New Jersey, USA (he has web sites).......it is a very well built shaft. I also have the web belt for the waist which I did not like......to much with the loose wires and then some have complained of wire breakage. There are people selling those Florida straight shafts on Ebay. As for the arm cuff........you set that up the way you like it.
