Wanted " An Actual deepest dime found with a Tesoro by you..

Elton

New member
A serious question.. I am thinking of getting a used Tesoro from a guy here local. I need at least 8" deep capabilities.

He claims 9 "with his Tejon.. I don't recall reading any such depth from anyone.. Is it true ???

Soil is clay, and some lighter minerals with some salt on occasion in areas.

Elton, I have found our (Australian) old pennies at more than 8 inches with my DeLeon, BUT, our old pennies are a large copper coin, almost 1 1/4 inches in diameter. And I would have no idea whether the soil conditions where I have found these are as good, better or worse than your soil conditions. I guess that what I am saying is that it is possible to find a coin at 8" or more with a Tesoro, but whether you would be able to find a dime, nickel or even a quarter at 8" in your soil, I cannot say. Hope that you get some more helpful answers, Pete.

Lol, on re-reading your question, you asked about a dime, so my reply will be of no use at all. I have found some dimes (all clad) out here, with my Tesoros, but the deepest would have been 3 -4 inches.

clay soil on a dime not going to happen. highly doubt any single freq machine will hit 8" dime and ID it as a dime in anything other than perfect conditions.

My Tejon hits my 9" test dime. A soft hit. Ground balance normal and turn gb counter clockwise a 1/4 to 1/2 turn. Makes it hotter with a negative gb. My ground is mild.

If you go with the 11x8 coil it may be done at that depth.

Elton,

...This reply may be a little more than you asked about, but this expaination should be a known factor and applies to other makes and models of metal detecting instruments. I like a machine to have a modulated audio and most of my detectors have this feature. I love those whisper signals that are just barely there and when short sweeping the target, all the while, raising the coil slowly, it fades out. When a person starts to understand those kinds of signals, it is as though a light bulb is turned on and you will find deeper AND BETTER treasures.

I understand and know what Hombre is talking about and I agree about the modulated audio...it just seems more descriptive regarding target size and depth.

The Tejon and Vaquero will hit a 8 in deep dime in my soil. It's a soft hit and you have to be paying attention but can be done. They are not deeper than my Tom D CZ but deep none the less.

I live in Minnesota and was hunting a local park, next to a sidewalk I caught what I thought was a dime signal with my CTX, I new it was deep but I was having problems pin pointing it. I took my Vaquero and nailed it right in the center of the hole. It was easily eight inches down and it turned out to be a silver Rosie-just sayin....

My settings are super tuned, negative GB 1/4 turn, threshold 3:00.

i hit a silver half dime at every bit of 6 1/2 - 7 inches with a vaquero and the stock 8x9 coil. was not a "loud" hit but solid both ways. with neutral GB. threshold at about 2-3 o'clock. was a pretty trashy area also. as you know, a half dime is a small thin coin. i thought that was impressive.

I was working an older school yard with the cz6a that I had previously gone over with a Tesoro Cortes, I had both detectors along to compare signals. Got a deep sounding repeatable high tone mixed with a few low tones. Checked it with the Cortes before I dug it up, it could ID it as penny/dime.
I found the target in the plug, it was a silver dime on edge at every bit of 6".
With the cz I could lift the coil 4" before the signal disappeared, with the Cortes I lifted coil 2" before signal disappeared.

You may not believe this but it's true. Using my Vaquero at Huntington Beach, Ca just above the water in the dry sand I got a whisper signal and knew it was good. I had to dig/scoop down to about 11inches to find that dime. I did the same thing with my old Fisher 1236x2 except it was a penny. I really did not believe it. If you are very familiar with your machine you will believe what it is telling you. HH Keith

Here's the thing:
About 20 years ago I had the AH Pro- basically a TR machine in PULLTAB reject and I also got a signal that I thought was an aluminum can because it was faint and a little wider in signal than usual. To verify, I took my knife outta my sheath and jabbed itmin the ground to the hilt-6"- nothing. I cut out the plug and jabbed it again to the hilt and heard a "clack" sound- which I knew meant I had just marred something! It was an 1880's silver dollar- with a gash in it.! The reason I thought it was a can was because I could lift the coil 3-4" and still pick it up. If anyone is old enough to have used one of these, you know that if you got the threshold just right, you could get a quarter 5" in the air. That means I probably coulda picked it up at 14"!

oh dear that wouldn't have felt good jabbin the silver.

no never used a TR was thinking of buying one just for the experience but havnt yet.

good story.
