want to start water hunting ..wet suit or wader???

also i'm looking at wet suits on line it looks to me that every brand of wet suit has a different size chart

I use a Henderson 3 mil full suit in winter (I am in Florida) and a 3mil shorty in spring. In the summer time, I wear a pair of shorts, a good pair of wading shoes, and a cheesy grin. I recommend the Henderson Hyper-stretch suits as they are very easy to get in and out of. If you have a dive shop nearby...I would go in and try one on. Fit is very important! Let me know if I can be a help to you in the shopping process.

I use both. I just got wetsuit and it is really nice in the water with waves that would wet you with waders. If I am going to wet sand only then the waders are nice as when you remove them you are still dry. I have the Frogg togg and they are lightweight and work well here in Florida and they do not have insulation in them. Up north I would probably go neopreme. How deep are you going is the question you need ask yourself.

Are you going to Hunt the Ocean or Lakes????

ocean chest deep at most i'm not in Floryda so i will go with the neoprene one 5-7mm for winter and other sesons ..summer i sould be fine with just shorts

Depending on where you are Tomcatpl, remember you can get Hypothermia even in summer. We, as water hunters, stay in the ocean a lot longer than the typical bather. Even here in Florida, you get a cloudy day or a rainstorm to drop a little cold rain on top of the water and your teeth can start to chatter pretty quick. Everyone has their own comfort zones....

i'm in the north east so i should get one fot the sumer as well? a 3mm suit.....are the 2 piece hendersons good for winter 7mm ??

I'm in the North East at Connecticut and there are many days during the winter when I wouldn't venture out for love nor money!!

As a younger man I did go out when the temperatures were in the 20s F, but rarely.

I've seen ice floating in Long Island Sound while hunting, but didn't make a habit of it as I cherished my life!!

I wore 5 mil neoprene chest waders with thermal coveralls inside and felt boot liners and shoulder high rubber gauntlets with GI wool glove liners and was surprisingly comfortable. (I hunted only during calm conditions!)

Any kind of wet suit under such harsh conditions is asking for real trouble!

My scoop handle froze so badly it was slippery and it made digging a real chore.

I opted to wait for warmer weather so I could enjoy my hobby rather than chance a life threatening dunking even though the clearest and calmest water was during the winter months.

A really good dry-suit with adequate thermal protection inside is the only way to go if you must venture out during the really cold weather,

i c a lot of surfers on my beach in the winter and they look ok in their wet suits

I bought an inexpensive full wet suit made by Body Glove, 3-2 MM. It does not fit me well as I am not a standard size, which makes it hard to put on and even harder to take off. So as Dig says, size is very important. I will definitely be looking into the Henderson Hyper-stretch that Dig mentioned should I decide a wet suit is in order again.

I had the same issue with all of the off the shelf chest waders, to get a proper chest fit, I had to by one which is larger in the rest of my body, ie the leg length would be 4 inches too long. I tried several brands on, both neoprene and breathable. It was always the same, no where near a good comfortable fit. However, in the end I did find the solution at Cabela's Outfitters, called the Stout fit. I bought the neoprene stocking foot breathable type, and lace up wading boots.

I chose the breathable type since I live along the Texas Gulf Coast and winters are not normally severe, however this year has been worse than most. I wear fleece under garments in the cold and shorts underneath during the summer months. I made this choice based on the recommendation of a Duck hunting guide. I have found that the breathable type limit the sweat accumulation inside the waders, and keep me drier. For my situation they suit me well, easy on, easy off, skin protection from all the nasty aquatic life and very light.

looks like theres allot of great info here so ill not add to the same, but if you choose any of the aboves posts youll do just fine..fyi i have both waders and a 2 piece wet suit to use for many different temps ill need..dive boots with a good arch support help allot too..

john

just got a henderson 2 piece wet suit with hood for 80$ 7mm should be my size if not i'm sure i can resell

I have always stayed away from waders. has a pair fill up with water real quick and it almost took me under. I use a wetsuit and hard sole wetsuit boots. If you do have to wear waders, then make sure you are wearing a Mustang Flotation device which can be inflated with a quick pull of a lanyards. Or its down to Davy Jones locker ya go
