what a great second detector for water hunters that want something lighter for shallow water eh?

Maybe for fresh water but I have yet to find a single frequency VLF machine that can balance to both sand and salt at the same time and not false unless you turn the sensitivity way down. This isn't a knock against this machine - the same thing can be said of machines like the Minelab Xterra 705 even with its beach mode, the Fisher F75 and Teknetics T2, etc. They just don't get the same depth as multi-frequency machines at the salt water beaches in the NorthEast.

However, this machine looks like it should be a great relic machine - manual GB, expanded iron range, 2 digit TID, 15 Khz, Pro audio modes - that is what you need for a good relic machine. I mostly relic hunt as long as the ground isn't frozen so this looks like the machine I have been waiting for Garrett to sell.

I wonder if Garrett might be getting out of the ridiculously overpriced high-end detector segment. Yup, it's nice to have a high dollar flagship model to brag about, but mid-range affordable (or cheap like the Ace 250) detectors with a great feature set can make for way more profit via much increased turnover. The environmentally sealed case (waterproof), while adding a bit of expense, can be construed as a shrewd move that adds a fantastic feature while possibly reducing warranty/repair expenses. I've lamented, over the years, the fact that almost all detectors seem to be designed to operate in a 'clean room'. Well, I live in the rainy Northwest coast and babying my detectors is a real PITA. ..Willy.

I am really excited about it, my only question is are headphones required for audio? If so that kills it for me. Hope not.

If not it would be easy enough to make an external speaker that plugs into the jack. I will make a mod that would allow me to plug in my wireless transmitter for land hunting. I'll simply order a connector from Charles and get to work. Should be a 10 minute job.

Before Christmas there Fred...

Most new products, all kinds, are released around now.
