Send me a contact number, please

Is that the 250 or 500 meter ?
I'll share some info. Minelab offered mostly '550' increment meters. The only exception was the later 'DigiSearch' meter with 180 increments. It says that on the meter itself.

George(texkinzee),I'll be looking out for a Joe Patrick 'Patriot' meter for you. It'll be a challenge.

You find one of Patrick's meters.
I'd be interested as well.
Those were Awesome.

This is interesting. Hopefully allowed.
If not please remove.

I havent seen any of the Patriot meters around for quite some time. I tried 2 different ones as I thought the first one was bad, but the second one was the same so it was sold also, went back to my 180 meters which I liked as I was used to them with their digital numbers so I could ID those close in tone targets by how the numbers responded, I did not like the 550 meters either as they jumped around too much. I did like the lighted display on the Patriot also. There were many that like them and I guess we cant all like the same thing.

Hope you find one and I like to hear what you think of it.

Know anything about converting the 550 meter to the 180 ? I don't like it either.

Yes I have the kits to change the 550 meter to a 180 meter as I believe in the 180 and save from digging trash, but maybe its just me.
If you know how solder,
they are not bad to do. the bad part is the screws to take it apart are under the decal. so being they are glued on it is hard to get the decal off without ruining it, so i just cut out small pieces the decal where the screws are and not ruin the decal.
The kits I have the instruction I got off the fourms years ago.
There was 2 different 550 meter and there is 1 resistor that tell you which one it is and come with the 2 different resistor so once you know which one it is you can put in the correct one and do a course calibration adjustment before you put it back together again.
I use to buy all the Sovereigns and if they had the 550 meter I would convert them to 180 and sell them after checking them out before reselling them.

Nice.
Where can I get one of those kits ?
I thought the wider numbers span would give a better ID on more target's with the 550 meter.
Seems mine only go's to 500 on a silver dollar. Hmm

You say it only goes to 500, did you adjust the calibration control on the back of the meter?? If it only goes to 500 and no higher when you go over a copper penny or a dime or bigger than there may be the coarse calibration control may be off inside the meter. I have always set the control in center position and then adjust the control in the meter as close as I can to 550 on the 550 meter and 180 on the 180 meter so you then have the option to raise or lower the numbers when you calibrate before detecting. The 550 meter will drift more when in the sun or bump the control on the back of the meter, the 180 meter dont as much if it does and if I get a reading over 180 I know it is time to check the calibration.
For me up here in ND and my soil and calibrated to 180 on new dime or a coper penny the meter will read 179-180 and on a quarter or a silver coin I may see a 180-181. Now the new zinc pennies will read 176-177 along with the IH pennies and some older wheaties. If it read 177-178 then it is a screw cap. Now on a nickel most read 143-144 and the round pulltab will read 146 on up, but some war nickel will read up to 151 because of the silver in them. With nickels they also have a tone different as it is smoother sounding. The beaver tails off the older pulltab will read141-143 and sound different and not as smooth as a nickel tone. I got a very nice gold ring that number showed beaver tail, but the tones sounded like a nickel and smooth in a area full of pulltabs, so once you know your Sovereign well you match up the tones to the number and if it is different than normal you want to check them out. I find the Sovereign with the 180 the best IDing. the 550 meter just jumps around too much and the newer meters where better but I feel the 180 meter is much better IDing.
The kit has a pot that has to be changed and 2 resisters that will be changed and the one resistor you have to read the color code to see which one you have to replace. then when done and before it is put together you hook it up to your Sovereign and set the user control on the back of the meter and center it, but run a dime of copper penny across the coil and adjust the coarse calibration control to as close to 180 you can. put it back together and recheck the calibration again and use the user control on the back of the meter and get it right on 180.
The kits I have comes with the Pot and 3 resistor so you have the one depending on which model Minelab meter. I also include a copy of the instruction I got off the Sovereign forum.
If you are good soldering and have a good solder pencil as a gun is too big and gets too hot then it is about 20 minute or so job, or take it to a electronic shop with the Sovereign and let them do it . They will need the Sovereign to set the coarse calibration before putting it back together. One other option is send me the meter and I will put the kit in and send it back to you. Let you know that I will have to cut small hole in the front decal where the 4 screws that hod it together as I have had no luck trying to peel the decal off and trying to get it back on, so I just take and try to cut a little off where the screw are.

The kits are only $8 if I remember right and I can send you one with the parts and instruction if you want, just need to get the shipping info and it will be on it way to you by the mail and you should have it in a few days depending where you are.

You can E-Mail me with your address instead of using the forum if you want a kit. Lschroe929@aol.com

How much to do the meter for me.
Though I'm quite good with electronics.
Just looking.
Apparently my electronics engineer student has I'm borrowed most of my equipment. Thankfully at least I kept my scopes locked up.

I can do the meters too and let people know I will cut holes in the decal where the screw are to take them apart. I want to check them out before I take them apart to see if they work correctly.
I just look to make sure I have the kit yet and made one up to make sure with the 3 different resistor and the replacement 1 K pot.
If you want I can help you by doing the mod for you if there is no problem otherwise with the meter. The charge is up to you as to what you feel you want to pay as I like helping people with their detectors, as long as it pays the shipping back to you is OK too. I am easy to get a long with.

If you want me to do this I will need to give you my address to send it too, once I am done with it which in most cases a day or so in my shop it will be back to you.
I had posted my E Mail address in one of the post so if you want to do this give me a E Mail and we can get it set up.
