I am new to the art of metal detecting... I want to buy a good all around metal detector...I want something that will multi task...but still be good for beginner...does mxt fit that purpose? Money not really an issue...just want good unit.

I just got mine and I would have to say definately. There are presets that you can set the knobs to and start hunting. Once you get to understand what the controls do, you dont have to touch them much. From what I can tell after researching different brands/models the MXT seems to be a real multi purpose machine, you will have to pickup some different coils though. :)

You will not be dissapointed if you get an MXT! It's very easy to learn and has 3 different modes to select. I personelly use Relic Mode exclusively while COIN and RELIC hunting both. The machine will flat out find the good stuff. Depth, on detecting targets are outstanding. There may be other machines out there that will go deeper but for starting out, this machine is perfect!
It would also be beneficial to buy additional coils. I have the small 5.3 Excellerator coil, the 6 by 10 DD coil, the standard coil and also the 12" Hotshot coil. I also interchange these coils with my DFX. Good luck!

I have been using the White's MXT for almost two years. I bought the 5.3 Eclipse and use in just about exclusively now. At this time I just don't see the need to try another model or brand because the my MXT is doing pretty good. I like the ability to turn a knob instead of scroll through a menu not that it matters to other folks. I set the the MXT to run with a slight threshold hum. I don't seem to hear all this noise that some would talk about of recent. The MXT is a good detector period. My advice would be to try one out somehow and hunt with it. I think you will find it is one of the better detectors being sold at this point. If you don't like it, then nothing lost. Try another brand or model out. I guarantee that you will find one you like, g... :D HH TonyTX

If money were no object here's what I'd buy. MXT, 5.3 Eclipse, 4x6 DD, and lower rods to go with them, top of the line headphones, the best NiMH rechargeable batteries I could find. And of course an IDX Pro with Mr. Bills mods for a backup. Well after thinking about it, might as well throw in the 6x10 DD coil too.
