Hi all. Been a while since I was here.

I'm trying to find a set of headphones for my Deleon. I still have the freebie that came in a promo (cheap). I'm not familiar if I need a limiter or not, but would like dual volume. I'm not trying to do the "whats the best detector" type newbie question. But are there a lot of difference between SunRay, Troy, Grey Ghosts and KBs. I wanted Ratphones, but it seems they are not going to be sold again till mid summer, and I can't wait that long. (impatient to finally enjoy the Tennessee weather and hunt).

Maybe just post what you like. Not trying to start a flame war, just some good input.

Thanks,

Dan

Hay dan,

Monte, who is very knowledgeable, says that Killer B's Wasp are
alomst the same as SunRay Pro Gold.

I have the single volume Killer B's and Gray Ghost. They are semilar,
but Gray Ghost are a little bigger and have a different knob.

I like the Killer B's a little better than Gray Ghost.

Monte seems to like Killer B's Wasp a little better than the SunRay
but can not tell a big difference.

Lately I have seen more people buying SunRay. They seem to be very
happy with them.

Hope that helps,

I've got several detectors made by 3 different manufacturers and my killer Bee's do a great job on all of them and did on some I no longer own .So much so that I have found no need to look for anything better ( if such an animal exists ) .Before I got them I read a lot of threads on different forums concerning phones and most all of them had something good to say about the Bee's . I even bought an extra set for a spare after trying out my first .I like the way they fit comfortably also .

[size=medium]First and foremost, we're all a bit different so far as ear size and shape ,and hearing ability, so it's certain that there'll be some who prefer one or two types (brands/models) over others. You may have to try some on and see what you think before you settle on one particular headphone. Oh, we can't forget the fact that sometimes a top-end headphone is such for 98% of the models out there, but just doesn't see to work well with certain brands/models.

Now, with that statement out of the way here's what I've come to favor after using a very wide variety of headphones since I started detecting over 43 years ago.:

My primary use set is the Killer B 'Wasp.' They are very comfortable, they stay put on your head, they have a rather durable coiled cord, and dual volume controls, and a limiter switch.

My 'back-up' headphones are the SunRay Pro Gold. They look the same and feel the same and wok the same because they are the same. As of my last information, they are made for SunRay by Killer B and are, essentially, the 'Wasp' model.

Why are they my "back-up" headphones? Because I haven't experienced any field failure with my 'Wasp's'! Most of my closest hunting buddies have also gone with the Killer B 'Wasp' or SunRay Pro Gold.

Hi Monte. Say, on the subject of headphones, maybe you can help clear
up some questions for some of us once and for all?
1. Since we've heard that most detector companies design their models
to work OK with just cheaper 8 ohm phones, why then the need for the
more costly 100 or 150 ohm types?
2. Is the advantage because of greater sensitivity of the higher ohms type
or is it just because of better quality speakers?
3. Is the difference between the 8's and the 150's worth the investment or
is the advantage mainly dependent on the hearing ability of the user?

Thanks for any input on this worthy subject.

I have the Sun Ray Pro Gold. I really like them. I also have a set of the cheaper 8 OHM phones. I do not like them. The sound is just not crisp, or clear as the Sun Rays. I do not regret one second spending thr $$ on a good set, Beale.

Thanks to all. I have heard nothing but good for the SunRay Pros even over GG and KBs. I did not know that KB made the SunRay Pros, so at least the manufacturer has been producing products for awhile. A special shout to Monte also. His reputation and advice has always been spot on. The last time I spoke with you you were having problems with your 2500 and had to send it back to Garrett (about a year ago) if memory serves me. I'll have to look up another old friend, Davhut.

I will call Brian at ST tomorrow and see if he can set me up. If not maybe Tony at TC.

Thanks again, and HH.
