Walking Liberty Half Dollars / 178+ Year Old Prussian Copper Coin / 1915 Oakland Car Printing Plate

Finds are from the last 2 weeks at various city parks and old schools.
The half dollars were found at different locations. One from an old city park and the other from a local school.
The 1942 walker was about a foot deep and the 1935 walker was about 7 inches on edge in the hole.
The old Prussian copper was about 10 inches deep. It took my wife and I a while to figure out what it was as the back had just enough on it to ID it.
The front is completely slick. I knew it was very old as I found the sharp 1909 Canadian Large Cent not too far from it.
It appears to be a Friedrich Wilhelm III 3 Pfenning (1821-1840). I scratched it when digging as there was a lot of Iron in the park and I was having a little trouble pinpointing with my NEL Thunder coil.
The old car printing plate was about 14 inches deep. Originally I thought it might be junk and was really wedged in the hole and I broke it trying to loosen it
from the hole. Once I saw the piece with the old car wheel on it I knew it was something good and worked the rest out of the hole. So if it wouldn't have broke I would have
given up on digging it as it was so deep I couldn't see what it was. The reversed print on the bottom displays "Sturdy as The Oak". It is approximately 1915.
The small Watkins 1907 "Dough" token was a bonus and came from a quick 2 hour hunt on Friday morning from a local old school. I also pulled the 1895 Indian and 5 other old coins there.
The token sounded like an Indian head penny.

Awesome finds as always FPD. Very impressive finding those two Walkers especially at those depths. Most of the halves I have dug have only been 4-6 inches deep. Very seldom see them at those depths. My favorite of your finds is hands down the Oakland printing plate. Very rare find and even harder finding one that large. That token is very unusual as well. HH

Thanks Greg!
Ya, the park that I pulled the Half,Old Pfenning, Large Cent and a merc had some fill dirt in it. I am sure an old house sat in the one corner. Normally Halves are about 6-8 inches with me getting a few10-12 inch range ones over the years. I can tell the park was pounded as I didn't pull one wheat penny. All the remaining coins were in the hard packed dirt way down. If I hadn't got the half and slowed way down the rest probably wouldn't have been pulled.

Hi Greg,

Other than the Chinese coin (1736-1795) my oldest coin was a 1853 seated dime.

Dave

Does that pfennig qualify as your oldest coin found?

Greg

Very nice. My oldest US coin is a very worn 1807 Draped Bust quarter that I found during a visit to my hometown in Ohio. I also lived and hunted in Europe for many years so I've been very fortunate to find many going back to the Medieval and Roman eras.

Great finds !!!!! My compliments to you or whom ever cleans up your finds so perfectly clean and clear. They always appear pristine !

Thanks roadapple, I go through a lot of brass brushes. My wife sometimes helps especially on the nickels with SOS pad. I avoid cleaning all the wheat pennies though.
Here is how the 1935 Walker came out of the ground...

What a great haul - congrats !

Seeing big Silver in the hole is always a heart stopper !
I dug a 1939 Walker last week - when I rolled the plug out the eagle looking right up at me from the bottom of the hole - what a rush !

Thanks! Congrats on the walker. Yes That half dollar big silver shock in the hole is a great feeling and doesn't come up very often.
