Walking liberty gets a bath.................:minelab:

Well it's been another day in paradise, really warm weather here in Virginia today. Yesterday was cooler but good for treasure hunting.
Andy and myself hit the dirt yesterday and found a few note worthy items, Andy found a really nice silver thimble and a perfect looking Indian head penny (1891). Yesterday's hunt for me yielded some wheats 1918, 1926, 1930, memorials and a key tag from Norfolk, Va. . Today I went to one of our previously hunted spots to check out the water damage from Irene, nothing changed much that would give us new hunting opportunities. I did swing the coil for a few minutes in the area where we had found half dollars before and did find 1 Walking Liberty half dollar (1941).. The WL was on the shoreline in the water, I took some before and after pictures. I used electrolysis on the WL for about 30 minutes and then shined it up with some Turtle wax.....

Thanks for looking..............................HH............................................John

That walker cleaned up real nice. Congrats :beers: on a great find.

Sweet finds John, I don't do that well in SW Virginia, guess I'd better move to your part of the State :)

Very cool. You mentioned that you found the WL in a place where you "found halves before." Any idea why you've lucked into a spot where you are finding halves somewhat frequently? I ask because, the first two halves I found (a WL and a Franklin) were in close proximity (within 30 feet of each other); I have found only one other since. So, my point is, this is at least two cases where I know of that multiple halves were found in close proximity to each other -- and I wonder why that would be (as I can't imagine them being carried in great quantities, and thus can't imagine them being dropped "routinely" in certain areas...

The half was found in an area where an old house site washed away into the river. I found remnants of a mason jar on the shoreline where the coins were found. 114 coins (half dollars) were found by me and my hunting buddy Andy at this location. I can only assume that the coins were buried etc. before the house washed over-board ...

AHHH -- that explains it, TwoRivers. Makes sense now. Having said that, what an AWESOME discovery that must have been -- 114 of them now? You gotta be KIDDING me!!! That's just amazing! Great job!

Steve

Actually since the initial find of 114, the count would be up to about 116 having found a couple more. During October of 2009 we made the discovery, Andy found 40 and 74 was my take. It was quite an experience to find that many in one place. We hope to do it again someday:biggrin:
