I left the house Sunday early 10 degrees...hit a park just off I-65 a little N of Indy as the sun was coming up...blowing cold heavy wind...ground was still frozen in places, but I managed to find some damp ground in there and jack about 8 bucks out in short order, a 58 wheat, and a Stainless ring...Made it into Nashville for the night, hit a park I saw by satellite the next morning...big place, even a sand volleyball court...hit the totlot right away to see what I might expect...Grim, picked pretty clean, as was the VB court. Went over to the Basketball court and did the "Revier" all around it and sniped up @4 bucks in the heavy trash, a few nice spills and stacks.
Later that afternoon, still blowing cold 29degrees found me just outside of Huntsville in a little no account town with a few parks I saw by satellite...again, right away a guy could tell they had been worked, got another junk ring and some more clad. I saw another Detectorist! We talked for a bit, good friendly guy, late 20's early 30's maybe, with a brand new AtPro...said he'd been hunting this area since he was 12 with a Bounty Hunter...I invited him to check out our Forum, and he might..he's super hooked like all of us, and was good to meet!
Stayed in Guntersville Al for the night, and went into the water at Sun-up at the main beach, TVA watershed, thought let me see what all the hubbub is about!...immediately could tell this place too had been hunted pretty good. evidently its not "off limits" to somebody!..I did find one spill in waist deep water of 3Q's and 3D's
hit some of the sports fields quickly, and on the edges of the parking lots (in the trash) is where I got some more good clad. Rest of this place was picked clean!
Wed I was somewhere between Noonan Ga and Nowhere off of exit 41 on I-85 and to the SE in the red dirt..Right where the AMC show The Walking Dead is filmed! I had an hour to highgrade the area...just modern clad and a few old relics ....total haul is 153 coins for 19.45...a 12.7c avg. which is speed hunting and highgrading typical results...sure wish I had more time to hunt, maybe 4hrs total...but had to work....well, it was a nice night, so I left ATL Thursday at 11am 62 degrees, and pulled into the cold MI yard at midnight, 23 degrees..2043 miles rd trip..and actually got quite a bit of work done too!.
Best part was to run that 70 like I always do, with no problem in all the changing soil conditions, never ground balanced it once, from the deep red chert infused clay of Ga to the heavy gray clay of Indiana. I can see when this kind of clay dries out, it would be some real tough duty to dig a hole in it...Michigan soil is easy digging when its not frozen! Tomorrow I'll check out the sled hill up here and see whats up...
