VX3 Single Frequency hunt - check in multi freq.?

I am having a hard time with VX3 audio. I had the sudden thought about single frequency hunting and tone id enabled. Would that make the V3 more like the tone id machines I normally use? Could you hunt in single frequency and change to multi frequency to verify targets. In time, I think this would help me adjust to the V3 audio. I was curious if this would work? I haven't had time to play yet, but it is on my list of things to try. Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks, Don

I don't have a VX3, I have the V3i. I don't understand why the choice of frequency would make a difference in the tone? You essentially have the same machine as me when running factory programs (at least as far as tones I believe). I find the tones of the V3i (or VX3) to be VERY descriptive. Perhaps I don't get the gist of your point. Where exactly is the problem? Are you running tone ID? If you are not, then the sounds will still be descriptive, but will be of the same sound (tone).

Regarding hunting and freq - Just have two programs with the same settings but one in single freq and the other in three freq and just switch between them. (I do hope in a future upgrade they allow us to hunt in single freq but pinpoint in 3 as I love the 3 freq pinpoint.)

Hope that was helpful,
EMS

I am sure my machine is working fine. I am just used to a sharp beep telling me when I am over a good signal. The musical tones I encounter on the VX seem spread out and indistinct. Maybe I just haven't gotten them over that many good signals. Thanks, for your input I plan to keep playing with it and week if I can get used to the sounds. I guess I am figuring it out slowly, I have dug some nice things. I do have tone id turned on and that seems to have helped.

Keep in mind, when you use a metal detector that has 12 notches vs. 191 tones will have a consistent beep. A dime and a penny are likely to sound the same with one tone. If you were to spread this same 12 notches over a range with 191, the tones will not always be consistent. Even the slighted variation in a coins surface can have an affect on the tone.

One of the great features of the V3i vs. the Vx3 is the ability to configure the detector to sound the way you like. You can assign different tones for different targets. If you only want a range of 12 different tones, you can set it up that way. The Vx3 does not have the ability to configure the detector so you have to deal with the way they are in the programs. I am sure there is some configurability but I doubt you can do it like you can with the V3i.

Only the V3i has the tone assignment Neil. The VX3 has Tone ID ON or OFF and yes Don, you can switch the Tone ID at will but I would think that if you give the Tone ID a chance...... and it will take a while..... you will really like it. You will seldom have to look at the display once you get used to the Tone ID, you will have a good idea what the VDI is just by the tone and you will be using your brain as the discriminator.

What about headphones?????????????? They can make a difference .

I myself run on tone ID and love it I started run tone Id back with the xlt and the dfx when I got my V3i at first I did not like the tone Id on the v3i it did not sound the same as the xlt and the dfx but not 4 month using the v3i with tone Id on I really like the sound of the Id once you run with and learn the sound you will not have to look at the display :twodetecting::whites::cheers: I have the wireless hp and the sun ray gold head phone I run with the wireless I like the sound of them over the sun ray on the v3i I us the sun ray on the xlt and dfx.

As a former DFX user I will say that the tones are a bit more consistent than the V3i. I wonder if my new V3i will be different.
