Just got the new VX3 and thought I would share a few lessons learned that may help a new user. When doing air tests in coin mode I found that a newer penny was being disc'd out so I had to go into the VDI menu and edit to accept the value that my penny was giving.
-Make sure you air test targets so you know your machine is set up properly.
-Reducing recovery delay will allow you to sweep your coil a bit faster I prefer about 50, this way the detector won't be so slow to return to it's baseline so it can pick up the target much quicker on the return sweep (right to left etc.).
-ground balancing is a must
-2.5KHz doesn't do so well on nickles so if you're in deep silver mode you may miss nickles
-Hi Pro mode with a RX Gain setting of 13 air tested a dime at 10" penny at 11" quarter at 12" nickle at 9" . Impressive
I will post more when I get some more time in on the detector. So far I love it but at first it scared me a little until I trusted my gut and edited the VDI disc. I did notice however that an older wheat penny read in the normal range. I would love to hear from other users about their successful programs that they like to use.
Thanks!
