vx3 Coil Selection Question

New member
I do not own a V3i, but if I understand it correctly, when you change coils you must go into the programming and tell the machine what coil you are using. What does this actually do ? Also how is the performance of my VX3 affected when I change coils since it does not have this option? Is it optimized for one specific coil?

You do not HAVE to tell it what coil you are using, but if you do, the depth reading is more accurate, that is all it does.

Thanks. Your right. Bells and whistles are nice, but....

A more accurate depth reading is not a bell or whistle. Being able to change print size and color might be considered a bell and whistle. Remember you don't have to use all the extras.

Learn the performance features first. That means learning what will happen when you change one of them.

I was simply trying to find out if the performance of the VX3 is diminished because of not having the same option as the V3i when changing coils. By performance I was meaning depth. I should have clarified that. Evidently the depth itself is not affected, just the indicated depth. I have heard it said on this forum that the VX3 is the same machine as the V3i without the whistles and bells, that's why I said what I said earlier. Having a feature that would improve indicated depth accuracy on the VX3 would be nice to have, although I have always found that coin sized target depths seem to be pretty accurate with any of the coils that I have used. I have been using the VX3 for 2 years now and feel pretty comfortable with it. I am still interested in learning the about the differences between it and the V3i though. Thanks for the input.

If you could change the user interface the VX3 would have all the V3i options.

V3i no question about it. Plus it it is american made.
