Volumn without phones???

Not being totally deaf,,the other day when my factory ml phones were acting up.Ijust unplugged them and found the external speaker to be not exactly loud at all.Volumn set on 10..Am I broke down,or is this normal, there was not alot of background noise to contend with.It was not loud enuff to have used in a beach/surf or traffic situation..Thoughts????

Mine is quite loud even with the dust cover on. I would probably up the treshold and gain if I was forced to use the control box speaker, but in heavy winds, surf, and traffic noise it would be more difficult to pick out the medium signals. In a quiet area it should sound off with good volume.

Charlie, I would recommend the Sunray Stand with the 1/4" jack and a set of Gray Ghost/Timberwolf Style headphones. They're made from industrial earmuffs that drown out any outside noise. HH, mike.

I personally think they should get rid of the speaker and make the case solid. I know if something happens to your headphones you could use the speaker, but I'd rather carry spare headphones rather trying to hunt with that speaker.
The speaker is only good for added weight and a place where dirt and water can get in the control.
JMHO.
