Volume control settings

Hi all,
I'm a new Explorer II user and I have to say that I am really liking this detector. It is a bit heavy but I have a harness and it working fine for me.
I have the stock headphones and I'm finding that it is way to loud for me..I'm a musician and my hearing is really sensitive.
My question is this: I have turned the volume (Max Limit) down to three and I still hear everything. Am I loosing depth at this setting? According to my understanding, I shouldn't be as long as I can hear all of the signals.
I am finding deep, older pennies and silver dimes and quarters and I'm really impressed. Unfortunately most of the silver is pretty badly corroded but still fun to find.
Any suggestions or opinions on this volume setting that I have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ron L

From what I know...Your volume is set for your hearing preferrence and ability, and "Gain" is used to hear those deeper targets louder, but set it too high and you won't be able to hear the diff. between shallow and deep, 7 is good for gain. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?.....GOOD! HH

I keep my gain on 7 also..I find that lowering my Volume (Max Limit) also gives me more time with my rechargable batteries. My only concern was if Im losing depth by lowering the volume.
According to the manual it doesnt effect depth, as long as you can still hear the signals.
Im going to need a probe for this machine...I got 3 silver today and they were pretty deep.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my question..PARDON..WHAT WAS THAT YOU SAID..I CAN HEAR YOU NOW..LOL
Take care..bye Ron L
