I am finally going to come and check out australia, I am coming in june and wondering if anybody had any advice as to where a guy could poke around a bit with a detector, flying into Brisbane and working our way toward Cairns, also any advice on things to do in general, we only have a couple of weeks and there is so much to see!!!
Thanks

Steve,
Not much detecting around Bris. but when you are in Cairns go to The Miners Den on McLeod St. and have a chat to George who owns the place.
He will point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

Clermont is about midway between the Brisbane and Cairns, you can purchase a fossicking license and also a General Permission Area permit and detect 7 or 8 general permission areas all of which have produced alluvial gold to metal detectors (there are detailed maps with the kit). Clermont is approx 900 Km north of Brisbane, 100 K north of Emerald and about 280 K West South West of Mackay (Whitsundays).

Hope this helps,

JP

I have been to Australia. I was in Melbourne and the Victoria area. I loved it there. Beautiful country and some of the nicest people in the world. I left apart of myself there and hope to return one day. I miss the beer Victoria Bitter. I wish they sold it here in the US. :beers:

Sorry to say but Barry is not looking too good these days. Mate from Yeppoon reckons he's almost hospital ridden. Shops run by his Brother now I believe.

Any one detecting around the Kalgoolie area?
I was there years back but was not into detecting then.
And what about around Esperance?
