Texaspapa and I went to meet the director of the huge youth camp here in north texas yesterday, as uncle willy and others suggested we do first. We explained what we do and how we would respect the property and he told us key areas he would search, where the kids congregate the most.Even gave us a complete map and mark those areas for us. What a great start. The temperature was 94 degrees and this old man can't hunt in that kind of heat. I had a doctors appointment and left texaspapa there to hunt. It was too hot for him too, but he did look around in one place at one of the sand volleyball courts and found a few modern coins.Later this week we will go early, and get serious with the hunting. I've been getting acquainted with my ace 250 in my own yard, and found several pennies and a few quarters.
Still trying things suggested by the posts in here before I go out there. Again I appreciate all the info I received, and I look forward to sharing our finds with all of you.

Like khouse suggested, hunt the easy places first , that way you'll learn what the ace will do.:detecting:

I'm with you on those times ! this texas heat is not good summer time detecting lol. pretty soon our lows will be in the 80's

We found out the 28 acre lake has been there forever. It's spring fed and there are still traces of the overland stage stop where they got water from the lake. The original house was built in 1839 and in 1880 was replaced with the 2 story wood house that is being lived in today.
Also the history I got from the current owners says all the cattle drives from the south of here stopped there to water the cattle on the way to kansas, and down the chisolm trail.
