Took off from work early and headed down to Rocky Neck State Park East Lyme Ct. We had a storm hit us over the weekend and it moved a lot of sand around.......lots of black sand and the beach was flattened with no cuts. Waves pounded all the way up to the boardwalks.

Bleak finds there so I headed off to Sound View and Miami Beach only to find the same conditions....12 to 18 inches of sand has been moved out to the sand bars with clad exposed on the surface...some quite old.

That beach must have been picked over pretty good for there to be such a meager nut even though the base was exposed in spots. Better luck next time, the surf god is a fickle guy.
Hope you find lots of gold in your scoop next time.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us.

Cheers,

Still a pretty beach to look at though and at least they only banned frisbees not metal detecting.:ban:

It must be nice not to have all the stone that we have on the sound side beaches of Long Island

There are so many variables for such a small stretch (100 miles) of coastline. We can go from fine hard packed sand to coarse granualar with stones in less than 5 miles and then total stone a few miles further and another few miles down the road is fine sand mixed with shells. Some of the beach bottoms are peat and stone while other are sand or muck! It all depends what your glacial deposits were and then the wind and currents.
