Vintage Metal Detector-LYNX by C&G Technology,Inc.

Hi everyone,
new to the site, hoping to be a regular. I purchased my first metal detector today, I found it at my local G-Will and Im hoping its worth keeping. I dont know anything about it and Im hoping someone out here can help me out. Its a LYNX made by C&G Technology, Inc.Model F200-1FL. It works great, needs a good cleaning but other than that its it working condition, or at least this is what this amateur has figured. I read that this was the beginning to the Tesoro Brand so Im hoping to get more info on it and maybe tell me where on a scale of amateur and pro does or did this fall into. It still has the original price sticker on it :). Anywho, cant find anything on googles, so I would appreciate any help. Thank you!

Welcome, post some pics of it!

Thank you for the welcome! I will post a picture, sorry, I was unprepared with a picture at the time I found this forum. Ill post some as soon as I can. In the meanwhile, here is a similar one, this one was listed as a bobcat, only physical difference I see in mine is that this one has an extra little toggle switch on the bottom left.

Thanks ChilinLA, if it works I think you be in business , the far left toggle looks to be a notch between foil and pull tabs, do have for sure got a vintage detector but you'll do just fine with it! Good luck& HH hank

Thanks! I was hoping I had something good, at least for a starter. It does work so far, I will have to replace one of the battery contacts/clips but thats an easy fix, other than that, just a little cleaning and it should be good to go. If anyone has a manual for it or maybe tell me what the best way to get it started, I would really appreciate it.Do I have to calibrate it somehow? How does the compensation and tuning work? Sorry for the very amateur questions, just want to get the best of this old beauty. Thanks!

I would test some coins of different denominations and test them over the coil and turn the disc knob at the same time , nickels will cut out low, and then zincs, but the quarter and dimes should hold the tone, the tuning knob I don't know about that maybe a ground balance of sort?! Theres a lot more people here probably can explain better than me, but ask away that's what this forum is about to help one another.

Nice! Thanks, thats a good start. I always like asking the "real" people of the forums rather than googling things, sometimes the google results are too confusing or just doesnt pertain to what I was looking for. I really appreciate the tips, I will give it a try, it would be really cool to actually find a treasure or two with this one. Ill keep you all posted and please continue to reply, I look forward to reading more tips and info.

Your welcome, HH hank!

Had one when they first came out, bought one for competition hunting. Wasn't to happy with the depth, remember the grass always being too high at the hunts. So I
didn't have it long. Pictures from my website.

Sven,
thank you for the info and the pictures, I did read something about the depth issue, but I think for a starter metal detector it will do for now. Ive yet to try it out on actual grass, it was raining yesterday so I didnt want to take it out, Ill try it today in my yard and see if what I find. I think I did good for $25 :). Thanks again!

Can't go wrong for $25, if it's operational and in really nice shape, you'll get a lot more for it if you decide to sell it.

Thanks! It is fully operational, so far I have found about a dozen screws and nails in my backyard! Soon enough, Ill be able to re-shingle my roof! J/K, but yes, Im excited to get out there. Im surprised at the accuracy of the machine for its age. Im actually moving to Cali later this summer so Im going to wait to comb the beaches with this one, hopefully I find some rings or coins. I will probably hand this one down to my daughter once I get more experience and get me another. I think this will make a great starter and a good hobby for the family.

Not sure if this is still being followed due to date but I am searching to buy a Lynx C&G Technology metal detector for my Dad. His is broken and he wants one just like it if anyone is interested in selling theirs. Please let me know.

They pop up on ebay every month or two.
They are cute, had one when they first came out.
