After searching online I found that some companies sell replicas and actual old keys and locks that match the design of this key. It was a neat find even if it turns out to be a replica. It does look like it has been in the ground for a while though and I found it in the same place as my 1945 war nickel. As far as I can tell in matching it up with pictures of keys online. It is a barrel style padlock key from early 1900's through mid century. If anyone has anymore information on this object, it would be appreciated. Regardless of when it was made, replica or original I was excited to find it last night. I had another first last night. I got a really strong signal and dug only to find my first pull tab sandwich or pull tab key chain. Those pull tabs may find a permanent place in my weirdest finds found while metal detecting section in my collection of things I have kept from my hunts.

Nice find.. I doubt that is a replica.
I have seen some similar to that one and it may be a key to a safe deposit box.
Now all you have to do is find the box and then you will have your treasure!LOL

Hi Dirtdigger,That's a cool key! Looks maybe to be brass and reminds me of it being similar to small Rail Road lock keys I have seen. Or maybe a "Time Keeper"/"Turn Key"/ Watchman's key used in "punching the clock" to prove he was on the job making his "rounds". All that is right what came to my mind, and may help some. HH, Charlie

I did not see any markings on it and it does not have any letters on it. Thanks for all of your input. If it is rail road related I will be excited. If it is to a safety deposit box I will search the area for a treasure chest. I searched the ares pretty good to see if I could find more cool things.
