Hello All,
I've had my grandfather's Fisher 552-D vlf detector for a couple of years now, and have been surprised at the small things it could find.
Recently, though, when putting new batteries in it, it wouldn't come up, and after pulling out the circuit card, I found a popped silicon diode. I wrote to Fisher and the guy told me that, though they didn't have the manual for that model, he had a drawing and he was able to determine how the new diode should go in.
Something is still wrong, as I get no tones from the thing and I smell burning electronics.
I'm an electronics geek by trade, so with the proper schematic, I should be able to fix this thing.
Does anybody know of a place that has old manuals? When repairing an old Ham radio (ki4grd) I found places online that had manuals for old gear.
I suppose that the new gear is all surface mount and you couldn't fix it if you wanted to.
Thanks for any replies.
