Vintage Blacksmith Shop and Stables...............

Kelley (Texas)

New member
This is a picture of an old blacksmith shop and stables on property off the beaten path down here in South Texas. The picture was taken with a Canon A720 IS point and shoot camera that I use in my travels by motorcycle through out South Texas recording historical sites or sites of interest that are rapidly vanishing from the land. This particular picture was a little difficult to take because it was taken as the fog was lifting and the sun was peeking out of the clouds. For informational purposes, I located this old blacksmith shop and stables through many hours of research. I have reason to believe that this is the blacksmith shop and stables where a Marshal Ben Thompson stayed for the night in 1884 while en route to San Antonio, Texas, where he was ambushed and killed. I have been working on this journal for well over a year, visiting and researching lots of interesting places all across South Texas. The picture posted below is an old hotel located in a small town east of Austin, Texas...if only the walls could talk. I think that I used a Canon S3 point and shoot digital camera to take this picture, not sure. I take a few rest breaks along the creeks and rivers...lots of birds and I am tempted to take a few bird pictures, but I would not expect them to be of the quality of the ones that you take and post on this Forum. Your pictures are beautiful, so colorful! Kelley (Texas) :)

Thanks Kelley, your pictures are good... I too enjoy old buildings but here there is not much to choose from. When I visit Pamlico Beach N.C. again in March I will try to capture a few of the older buildings.. One thinks of the history of old and forgotten places...As you say if these walls could talk...When I was a child I can remember so many places that are gone now and it would be so nice to have pictures of them.. Keep up the good work...

My photography is directed towards recording old towns, ghost towns, historical sites and other interesting things of long ago times. I ride the back roads of Texas in search of interesting subjects on a regular basis...very enjoyable. Thank you for the compliment. Kelley (Texas) :)
