Just got back from my Feb UK hunt and brought back last years finds ( Feb 2013) The museum logged 2 of my finds (location and picture id) they didn't qualify as treasure so they were returned eventually. The artifact pictured is a 900 A.D. Viking strap end. The open fretwork pattern is called the "ladder of life" Viking finds are rare in the area where my wife and I hunt so its a pretty exciting find. The belt end is cast bronze and measures approx. 2.5 by 1.125 inches. the part that rivets to the belt is broke off, I think it happened during an epic hand to hand battle (sounds good)

Very neat find! Thanks for sharing.

And I agree, the only way those could be lost was during a horrific battle most probably to the death.:starwars:

Congrats on the rare finds! Would love to hunt in the UK and planing on one sometime.

That is an amazing find. I can't imagine finding something like that. Congrats on the recovery.

Any chance you'd share pics of some of the other finds you made on your UK journeys? :poke: I've heard (from a pretty reliable source) that you and your CTX3030 have done quite well over there. :yikes: HH Randy

Wow a Viking era find. Now that is really awesome.
Kinda funny I always watch the guys videos that hunt in the UK and I am astonished by what they find. Such a long span in in thousands of years of lost goods to be found.
Its something I want to do soooooo bad. I often think about taking about one of the pre-arranged guided hunts but, I wonder what it would it would be like to do it on my own.
Do most landowners want a specific percentage of payout if the find is deemed of historic relevance and is kept?

Once again that is an amazingly interesting find. Congrats.

Stunning find!! What is even more stunning is that you were allowed to keep the artifact.
