vids and coils

My first post to the Forum, although I've been lurking for awhile and learned a lot from the many MXT experts who post here. One question that has been bothering me is this: Does vid accuracy depend on which coil you are using? In particular, are the vids you get with the small DX-1 coil accurate?

For example, you may get VID numbers of 78 for a copper penny using the original 9.5 coil, then mount the Eclipse 5.3 coil and get a VID number of 76 for the same copper penny. You should generally base the initial decision, of whether or not to dig, upon getting a solid repeatable sound, then look to the VID meter for a second opinion. Kelley (Texas) :)

That is interesting as I just purchased a used MXt and awaiting it's arrival. It has the 9.5 and the 5.3 coil. Thanks

Todd, I'm near Hopewell which is about half way on a line between Salem and McMinnville. I haven't found much of note yet with my MXT, mostly iron and brass junk around the farms nearby, some clad and one badly corroded IH penny. One problem I'm having is that large iron or brass junk gives me a few high vid hits that generally fool me into digging, thinking that there may be something good next to the iron. I know they are probably junk, but I hate to pass up a possible find and end up digging more questionable targets than more experienced users probably do.

Welcome aboard the Findmall MXT Forum OregonJim! You're going to love your MXT. Its one heck of a machine and with any of it's coils, you will be right on the money with only about 2 numbers difference. Some coils are exactly on the money. I use the DX-1 pinpointer and wouldn't be without it either. YES, the VDI is accurate on the DX-1. Accurate? You bet! Hope this answers your question. HH, Nancy
