video: Poping out a coin with a modified grease gun

I was searching this forum to see if I could find info on how guys pop out a coin. I am new and wanted to see a video of it. Couldn't find any in here so I search youtube. Didn't find any body poping out coins with screwdrivers but I did find a video on a guy using a modified grease gun. I thought it was cool so I posted the link below. Its a 2 yr old video so its probably already been posted here, but I thought it was a cool way to dig a coin with very little mess to a yard. Reminds me of pluging a watermelon to see if its ready. As for my personal experiance, I will have to learn to how pinpoint the coin exact position before I ever attempt to pop on out. I am getting better.

When I searched this forum, I found one thread where they talked about poping a coin with a screwdriver. The guy talked about how he does it. People ask him to add a video, but never added one.

Here's that link.

I have a diagram here on the site in the archives on popping coins with a big screwdriver. If you can't locate it I'll post it again. Works like a charm.

I would like to know how the guy made the grease gun popper. That thing looks like it did a very good job. If anyone can find out how to make the neat little tool post it for us all!

I'd like to make one myself.

Hi everyone I watched the video and my opinion is ,is that it is not a greese gun ,it looks like a industrial caulk gun.I used to work building tilt-up building s and the guys had these huge guns that had a pump they would fill them up so they could hold enough caulk to go 40 50 feet without refilling.I think you can buy them at places like whitecap industries or maybe graingers.I've also seen them used to grout brick pavers cause they have different tips you screw on.beautiful idea.wish I thought of it .Just my opinion

Probe for the coin then leave the probe in the ground to mark the location of the coin.. Push your srewdriver tip down alongside and past the coin an inch or so. Then pull the probe out and lay the handle up against the screwdriver shaft to act as a fulcrum. Then push down on the handle of the screwdriver in the direction shown to pop the coin out of the ground. This is mind boggling simple so needs no video.

I have never poped a coin out of the ground.
However, Bishoping is another story. ;-)

Here is a link to a plug popper which appears to be a modifed grease gun and would be simple to make home-made

Thanks bcoop for the info.

I think I will hand make mine though...I will have to search the local Home Depot and Lowes for the items and convert it.

That's similiar to what I've been thinking of doing at the beach -- except I'd use a "clam gun" made from PVC pipe. They work like a charm on buried clams on the Washington/Oregon coast. Those guns go like 3 feet into the sand!

I sent a message to the guy who made the video, if he answers I will post here what he made it out of.

Yeah, White's has been making those coin poppers for a while now. I don't really like the concept because the grass is still killed within that little circle where it is cut off from the root system. Uncle Willy's method is the least destructive. Happy Hunting!:)
