VIDEO..How to Pinpoint with the Etrac without ever using the pinpoint button

New member
I have had a couple people ask me how to pinpoint with the etrac or how I pinpoint using the coil wiggle method instead of using the pinpoint button, so today I made a video.

I hope this explains how I do it, and hope this is helpful to those people who have asked for my help. Or maybe a new etrac user, wanting to learn the quickest, most accurate way to pinpoint any target, shallow or deep. In the video I pinpoint a quarter in the ground, dig it and even lay it on the surface to show this method works even if the target is just in the grass.

This video will teach you HOW to pinpoint with the minelab Etrac WITHOUT ever using the pinpoint button. I never use my pinpoint button, this method is not only QUICKER but much more accurate.

You hear the tone of your target, as you wiggle your coil back so you are CERTAIN what your pinpointing. If you use the pinpoint button the etrac goes into all metal mode and it will pinpoint the strongest signal. Which could be a nearby nail, pulltab etc....By using my method you save time and by hearing the tone, while wiggling the coil back, you are positive you are pinpointing the target YOU want.

Nicely done, super example! I too often use this method, as you mentioned it is especially helpful when you have nearby targets!!

Thanks for the tip, and the video. I've been using the wiggle method, and then turning 90 degrees, Your method looks alot more accurate, and faster.

Does the distant from the tip change depending on the depth of the target? If so how much and in what direction?

Going to give this one a try. Many times when pinpointing I find myself way off target. I find this to happen even when I break the target signal down, I can be off left or right or the target will be to the back of the hole further back on the loop. Rick IL

I haven't noticed any difference no matter what depth

Worked great for me! Thanks!!!

THAT IS JUST AMAZING THANKYOU GOES4EVER FOR BOTHERING TO MAKE THIS VID I AM SURE LOADS OF US WILL WATCH IT AND THEN PRACTICE IT ITS LIKE MAGIC WHOOOOPEE

Never fails! Great Video.

G4E, It works great with the pro coil and I use it all the time. I tried the same method with the SEF 12X10 with a coin on the basement floor, Not Good, I want you to try this and you will be suprised at what I'm experienceing. I'm picking up the coin 25cents 5 to6 inches before I even get to it and when I wiggle back from it I can still get tone and ID 4 inches away from it. I would like to see you show a big difference on how the SEF coil reacts and how the ID numbers jump all over the place until you swing the coil away from the coin before in gives you the true number while the coil is away from the coin.

well I do not own the 10x12 SEF, but I own the 8x6 SEF and it works perfect for it, same way as my video shows. Have you tried it outside? Inside you are probably getting interference.

This is the ONLY way to accurately pinpoint a trget surrounded by trash...The ONLY way! if you use the pinpoint button, if your trash is larger or has a stronger signal than your target, I guarantee that you will be digging a rather large hole to find your target. with the wiggle method, you will be right on top of it.
I seldom have to dig a hole larger than 4-5 inches in diameter to get to 8+" deep.

HH,

Thanks for the tip. I just got my ETRAC 2 weeks ago and have been trying to figure it out. So far found $3.37 in coins as much as 9" deep and a full can of "Bud Lite Beer in tall grass"
I really like your video of not having to use pinpoint. I am having trouble figuring out the two different numbers on the screen as my 14k gold ring reads 12-34 on air test, old canadian silver dollar at 1-41, pull tabs at 12-15, etc. newer canadian coins read 14-20. platinum ring at 12.06. How do I figure out when to dig and not to dig as sometimves I think I am digging a coin and I come up with a nail or a tin bottlecap. I am going to a sand beach after easter Monday to see what I can find. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I agree with what DiggerOdirt says.......This is about the only way I pinpoint now. and also works great with the 6 in. EQ2 coil.
