Video: Garret Infinium LS with experimental 18x14 coil

Well I came accross this yesterday. The metal detector coil maker PM COILS is making this coil and some others for the Infinium and other detector companies starting in 2011. Looks very interesting...

One video is using the coil on a small coin and the other vid is of the big coil on a .2 gram gold nugget. This is an Austrailian company. Their statement: "A full range of Infinium coils coming for Gold & relic use in 2011."

Check the vids out, there very short:

PM coils are found on eBay.
As discussed, there is a coil-maker in Paradise CA willing to make coils for the Infinium LS.
My old fully dismantled and now replaced Garrett 14x10" mono was to be forwarded to him for further inspection............did that coil ever get forwarded.??

Its on its way Ivan...got distracted by all the holiday stuff!

I have tested the prototype of this coil on the Infinium and it was not up to speed at time of testing and lacks sensitivity, did not GB well and had a long settling time from switch on. I do not know if the coil in the clips is any different to the one I tested however development is ongoing and it is likely that the coil will be ready sometime in 2011.

One other point re the clip.
The Infinium does not have a speaker and the operator is wearing HPs, I cannot see any cable connection between the camera and the detector or HPs, so how is the target sound being recorded?

I think the video is just picking up the sound from head phones...they seem a bit cocked to the side on his head as to let sound out a bit.

HMMM, maybe. I have been trying to get an Infinium video together and it is the audio that is my stumbling block.... have not been able to get good quality live real time audio. So now I am making a cable conectiion from the HPs to the camera plus a mic input so I can talk over the sig tone.

I made an external speaker system for my Infinium...pics of it are here: http://gallery.me.com/bearkat4160#100092/IMG_2263&bgcolor=black

Sure is handy when I need to hear whats going on around me or make a video of the Infinium.

Yes you have a good set up. I have tried that and my camera is not hearing the realy quiet tones and variations in the threshold from very small and very deep targets plus a bit of wind noise comes through so that is why I am going for a direct link from detector to camera.

That's great news! This IS what many have been asking for, larger coils for the Infinium!

Once they're done testing and getting the bugs out, it will be nice to have the extra options for prospecting!

Yes I also hear that Garrett will possibly, finally, build the 18" mono for the Infinium. Rumor, but has some teeth to it. Also I hear they are still in the works of an update to it.

Its needs a bit more juice to compete with MInelabs Gold PI's. Garrett should add much more sensitivity to it and have a button or switch that detunes it for the beach crowd.

No need for an Infinium down tune switch, it'll never get to sensitive for beach use if set up specifically for this purpose.
It's not the tool but the user of the tool that make it happen.(some users are just lucky)

If the Infinium LS gets the needed boost to compare with the Pulse Scan TDI Pro then you'll have the needed grunt to compete with the ML users.

Very interested in this. Just about to buy an Infinuim now wondering whether I should wait for the new upgrade. Any further info would be appreciated.

Thats all I know Dave...might be soon, might be a long wait. Hard to tell with Garrett.
