Video camera suggestions

Dig

Active member
Hey Everyone! I need to hear from you hardcore video makers out there. I thought it might be fun to shoot and share some videos.I need some suggestions for a waterproof camera for taking video at the beach. It would need to have a battery capacity of several hours and decent video quality. I also need some suggestions for mounting it so that i can operate hands free (still detecting while filming). Im curious to hear all the different ideas. Thanks in advance! -Dig

I have looked at those Fur...Like the video quality. It's a lot but, I wonder about some of the less expensive cameras holding up. Biggest problem is mounting it so you can keep it in frame with what you are seeing. I suppose you can mount it on your headset

Dig, PI Joe and I both got the Tachyon XC Micros at the end of last year. They seem to take pretty good videos, are easy to use, waterproof to 100 ft and go for about $100. Joe gave me the tip on mounting it to the bill of my cap which seems to work great. Here is their website:

The only thing I don't like about the camera is the sound quality. The "mic" is inside the waterproof case so for decent sound quality the back of the camera has to be left open. BTW, I use Windows Movie Maker to edit my videos. I believe that it is part of Windows XP as it was already on my computer and I didn't know it. Joe uses a video editing program that he bought separately and he gets great results from it. Good luck and I look forward to your videos.

Hey Dig........ running late work at 3am, I use the same as Goldak and PI Joe....Mine is the 2010 xc model, they have come out with the 2011 HD, and the video quality is excellent compared to mine. I use the side mount that come with the camara and mounted on the Headphones, then you get the detectors tones, signals. Goldak and Pi Joe has excellent video and great at 100 buck. Both...Water proof to 100 feet, also if you get the 2011 HD, you will need a editing program that does quick time video's..Windows 7 will work, but not Xp. That's on the HD model only. Batteries are expensive at 5 dollars for 2 on the AA's and last 6 hours on the HD model, Not sure about the mini like goldak, pijoe's...........Man, it would be nice to see video's from your area...crystal clear water......

All is well here, just gearing up for retirement in 28 months..I'll see you then..the scoop is the diablo, almost finished, looks different then video, like Sdigger's, but more holes, and the Garrett Ls is the best I have on the PI's, may go with a EF before my 40 years are up........Good luck,.......joe................... your pm box is full

Hey Beech! Sorry about that...I have made room in my inbox. Are you prototyping that scoop? It looks good.

Dig, Here is a picture that PI Joe posted a while back. The camera comes with some velcro like strip material with peel and stick adhesive on the back. So far it is staying put. HH!

Thanks for the review! I checked out thier website and I just ordered one. I was going to send my video camera in for repair, and it would have cost almost as much as buying this brand new. I'm psyched about trying this in Coz next week!
