VID question

Can soil mineralization affect VID? In prospect mode ground measured at 72. Targets were few and far between so finding a clean spot to ground balance was no problem. Was using the 950 coil, C&J mode,Disc. at 21/2, trigger centered, trac set at GRND. Got a good audio, pinpointed target, rechecked VID, penny/dime reading, depth 5". Grass was about an inch tall and about another 4" down was a quarter.
Battery registered at 10 so should be no problem there. Maybe just a fluke cuz had no other problems. Just thought it odd that at that depth the MXT would have missed the ID. After recovering the quarter re checked and area was clean.
Not going to lose sleep over this but has me wondering if ground mineralization may have been the reason.
Any info on MXT VID that's not just the basic manual stuff would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

DPW,
I had the same thing happened to me today, but I was using an IDX Pro. I thought that it was strange. I figured one of two things happened:
1. May the quarter was tilted or on edge.
2. Maybe there was some iron near the coin which lower its conductivity.
I am leaning more to number 2.
Just my two cents worth.

PS I also use a MXT

i had the same problem. so i went to prospect mode and there was iron below coin lowering the id #. so most of the time that will be the case or a tilted coin. in an open area with few targets i always use prospect mode and just read the numbers. i have used it so long now i can tell depth by the tone and volume. i love the mxt and have done well with it .

Thanks for the info! I was in relic mode part of the time. The MXT is still so new to me that I hunt in different modes, when I locate a target I switch modes to see what each is telling me, I sweep from different angles, increase and decrease gain and disc. Basically trying all kinds of different combinations of settings just to see what happens. I'm having a ball experimenting. Unfortunately I only have time to get out about four hours on Sundays and an hour or two just before dark maybe one day a week. So it's going to take a while to learn the ins and outs really well.
