Victoria and Edward

G'day detectorists,

Just a couple of English coins that I was lucky enough to detect this week.
We used British coins before Australia started minting its own coinage.
A King Edward 7th 1902 penny and a Queen Victoria 1893 half penny.

Edward was Victoria's oldest son.
He took the throne at age 60 or so and only lasted 9 years before death.
Hence, coins from Edwards reign are scarce.
Edwards nick- name was "tum tum" - due to his portly appearance.
The penny was surprisingly shallow, and the half penny 7" deep in more sandy type soil
happy detecting

Nice bit of background info there Terra. I'd love to find coins like that! 1917 is as early as I've found to date.

Nice bunch of finds. You and your x-terra are getting along well.

Very nice. :clapping: Lovely finds, Terra1959, and dare I say it, inspirational.

Its always a great thrill to see pre federation coins. My ultimate goal is to find a holey dollar or dump, cause they're out there somewhere. Great finds. Hoover
