Vibra quatic 2 pin Pointer :(

Water wizard

New member
Hi guys my vibra quatic 2 under water pin pointer arrived yesterday, what a disapointment. It is support to be an under water pin pointer, but it doesn't pin point! It does detect metal, but you have to keep moving the pin pointer away and back to the target, so it's a metal detector not a pin pointer. I've already got an Excalibur which detects the targets, I needed an under water pinpointer to recover targets from in between rocks and on a bedrock with a light covering of sand where my scoop won't dig. It is very well made, and robust, but what good is a pinpointer if it only signals when you sweep the target? It doesn't enable you to actually pin point the target. Here in the uk the water can be very hard to see in, its tricky to locate small rings etc that's what I wanted a pinpointer for. My pro pointer is amazing, it signals as you get closer to the target, and when it's touching the target it signals continuously, perfect to pin point the target. This vibra quatic is just a detector, it doesn't pin point. Does anyone know if there is an underwater pin pointer on the market?

Garrett ProPointer. Marine silicone the speakers and light. Those are the only two points that it could leak. You could put gasket material in cap that holds batter, a little bit only.

Or, seal unit in pvc, turning it on an off is tricky...youll have to be clever on that one.

What about vacuum sealing your ProPointer? Should work I would think. Joe.

The vibra quatic and vibra tector use pulse induction and yes, that requires movement. You could purchase a vacuum sealer and some bags and that would work, but the marine silicone sounds like a better idea to me.

Why do they use pulse induction? It only detects at the most 2 inches away from the tip. Pulse induction is no good On a pin Pinter! It's such a well made product, but it has a massive design fault. If only they did some research with guys like us then they would have a world beating product.

I've been using one with my sifter and excal in the Bay the past 4 hunts. A real pain in the azz being a PI, but there are times it does help cause targets tend to be the same color as the muck. It's just something you have to get use to I guess. And it does disrupt the excal big time, almost like they are talking back and forth. I'm considering taking it apart and putting a on/off switch on it instead of the mercery switch, which I think they use.

Yea I have the vibra-tector and the biggest annoyance to me is the tilt on and off. A switch would be 1000x better.

Will do Scott, I liked your so much I bought the probe, but found there is a issue when using it...And your right the on off and you can't tell when it is on or off, ....time to fix....let you know, I have found a on off IP68 push button, and small. Maybe about a month but sure would make recovery faster.

my vibra probe 560 is sitting in the shed in the useless gear pile  wast of $$$. less that an inch depth & the auto switch are the down points but the overall idea & design is fantastic, If I could get the garrett depth I'd be a happy looter.

Have you considered a bicycle inner tube and some rubber cement for your pinpointer? Cut the tube, slide the PP in, seal both ends.
