Couple weeks ago at the Oxford Museum Sylvia came in wanting to know if there was anyway to search her barn that burnt down. Her barn was built back in the mid 1800s.I explained to her a metal detector wouldn't work well around a building destroyed by fire, just too much debris.Anyway I gave her my phone number and explained that her farm was near Hoover's field where a lot of relics were found from the big tornado in the late 1800s.Sylvia called me back and today we made a search RJ,Paul and myself.Rained most of the night and lawn around the farm house was soaked, which some of the plugs would fill in with water as you recovered your targets.First hour of the hunt Paul and I found newer clad,I even joked to Sylvia an old couch would yield better finds.I finally moved to the front yard near some old steps and found some clad dimes.Paul joined me in the front yard.Got a nice target with the Sovereign very steady 180 nice mild high tone. After digging down deeper in the hole I could see a quarter size target appear clean silver edge. With the coin caked with dirt I let Sylvia clean off the dirt, both Paul and I knew it was silver but what??Anyway the result after the dirt cleared 1929 Standing Quarter.Rick left before the search started and the rain was soaking my Sovereign and Paul's MXT so it may be a good time for photos and put the Sovereign in my Jeep out of the rain. With Rick back and now metal detecting he found a antique lock and after some photos the rain had stopped.I decided to stay and search longer. Now using my Explorer SE I was cherry picking targets. After a couple of wheat's I got a 8-9 inch target on the smart screen maybe an Indian head?Digging down about 10 inches the Vulcan pin pointer vibrated.I reached my hand in the hole and pulled what seemed to be a large token.Yelp had a digger's moment surprised to see it was a 1847 Large Cent.Photos of RJ, Paul , Sylvia and finds.
