Very Short Parade Field Hunt

tink

New member
It was the nicest day we have had here in over 4 months. 60+ degrees outside, no wind and all sun. So I decided to run over and hunt that old parade field we found a couple weeks ago. You can't imagine the excitement I felt when we pulled up to it and it looked empty. There were a couple of people sitting in their cars eating lunch we pulled beside.

There were some huge very old trees along the edge and normally I would have hit them first. But I noticed a strip about 3' wide and 10' long that had been dug up latley. So I wanted to start there first hoping for some shallow silver or old copper. As I was walking over to it I had to pass a slide and some swings so figure what the heck. Give me a chance to set up the machine, gets it tweeked to the soil and then head for the honey hole and trees. Well I hit 7P, 2D, 1Q and a bent up cheap bracelet in about 10 minutes.

Coins were everywhere and I even hit two targets that hit solid on 90-93 (half) reading 12" deep and a tight pinpoint field. I didn't want to dig them till the lunch people left and I could get them out. Just don't like digging that deep even with a screwdriver with people around. The grass was thin and it was sanded so it wouldn't have looked bad with all the stampled grass and bare spots from the kids.

I was just getting ready to head for the dug up area when I hit the quarter. I had just removed it when my wife tapped me on the shoulder. I removed my head phones and she we need to leave.....Now. WHAT !!!!! The best area I have ever found and we have to leave....WHY????...The lady I seen her talking too lived across the street.

She invited her father and brother over for a cook out and the nrought their detectors with them. They were over at the park detecting They came over a few times with some silver coins to show her and said they had quite a bit of coins and the park was loaded with coins and stuff. About that time, the park ranger showed up and stopped them. Told them it was against the law to hunt the park as it had historical meaning. Wrote them both a ticket for $350 and almost took their machines. So we got out of there as fast as we could.

Now I had to believe this lady and even if I didn't I needed to find out the truth and law. Problem is, when we were there two weeks ago we seen a lady come out of one of the old Officer quarters. We stopped and talked to her and she said that a she seen people detect the park and no one says anything. Maybe not meaning the park rangers thou.

But the small coil hammered me 10 coins in about 10 minutes 1"-3" down. It also IDed 3 peices of can slaw as 80-81 that I thought were quarters/dimes. Ddidn't hit one PT and screw cap which suprised me too. Oh Well, I can dream about this place till I ask a friend about it that works for the park.

BTW, took the new Excal to the beach after that. It was the first time for me using it and I think I found 20 nails in about 1/2 hour. Didn't want to disc anything till I get some time in. Worse thing is, my arms really hurt today from lugging the heavy machine around, digging up wet sand and trying to get out on wet sinking sand. OUCH. I will give it a couple more tried, but I think the F75 is just as good on the beach. So the new Excal might be up for sale soon.

what settings are you using on the beach..I found a manual GB around 4 to 40 and JE with sense up to 90 went deep with the stock coil..I had to
experiment with the GB around the wet..I was wondering what you used at the ocean..thanks..

Hi liquid,

I was using the Excal at the ocean. Was the first time out of the house with it and swung it for about 45 minutes to and hours. I also want to say I am still frigging sore in the arms and back from it. Part from using the heavy machine and some from digging in the wet sand. Wife says I am a sissy...haha. She didn;t say that when I was lugging 8 foot sheets of drywall around remodeling our place last week.

But I have used the F75 at the beach before with good results. I just basically fast grabbed and then manually set it to where it was pretty equal sounding going up and down. I did pull out some coins 1-4" down that hit hard. I wasn't in the waves thou (not to water resisitant) yet, but did cover alot of wet sand without any falsing.

I might also add, the F75 can pull just as many nails out of the sand as the Excal. I can also swing the F75 all day without feeling the effects the next day. Its on it way to Fisher Lab as of tomorrow morning for an examination and the upgrades. I plan to take the F75 to the beach right after i get it back.

I am wondering how the depth matches up between to two machines on a buried ring and coins. I have some rings I found last year I am going to ties a string to and see how each performs on my beaches and what depths each will go. Hopefully the F75 will be real close. Then this sissy can use the F75 and Momma can use the Excal haha...

Thanks and cool stuff..Yea it will be nice to know how the units compare..I know the excal is programed for the salt water which would be a huge advantage
closer to the water..But up on the beach where lots of goodys might be will be interesting..keep us posted..
