Hi docbar 20, Welcome to a life long addiction!!! I would suggest sand playgrounds or chip bark to learn. The amount of goodies you find in these parks is amazing. Also beaches, (salt or fresh), are a wonderful source of LOOT! But really anywhere people congregate is a potential goldmine. I own and use 2 BH tracker IV's one with 8" coil and one with the 10" coil. They are good units for the price, have a look at the post "enjoy the show" in this forum. More than 50% were found with the tracker IV's. I've found well over $20,000 worth of coins and jewelery in the last 2 years, probably closer to $30,000 one ring alone worth $5.477 The settings I use are Disc dial in the lowest position, tone disc, and sensitivity at the 4o'clock position, only dig the good, repeatable signals. All the best and hope to see you posting soon!!! regards Nugget:)

Nugget is the man on the Tracker IV subject...he has probably found more with those trackers than most of us here combined.... :clapping:
I agree, either start in your own yard, or go to a TOT lot that is grass, or mulch...mulch is VERY easy to dig in, and if wet, makes your targets more conductive (as does any wet ground). Read your manual 10 times...I mean it...then first air test your machine to get to know the sounds it makes with different metal objects (good and junk)...I suggest using a small nail, screw driver, metal hammer, pull tabs( square and pull off), screw caps (crimp on and twist off), different sized gold rings (if you have them), pennies (zinc and copper), nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar coins.
You will find each object gives off it's own distinct sound if you listen good...rings and some round pull tabs usually give a "double" ping sound...this happens as the center of the coil passes over each side of the ring or tab...Gold usually will fall between the pull tab and zinc range on most detectors, but with the tacker IV, you do not have a target ID indicator, so you want to dig ALL repeatable signals...that is ALL signals that give off consistent sound with multiple sweeps of the coil. If the sound is broken, or changes with each sweep, the item is either very deep, very large, or just plain junk...
Hope this helps some...

Happy Hunting, and Welcome aboard,
