My friend Catskill Comics had been doing some research and stumbled across a private property with some history. Turns out there were many foundations and communal living here many years ago. Although we have yet to locate any foundations, we did some detecting. Not having his phone with him, we decided to stay in earshot. 1/2 hour later I looked up and didn't see him so I called his name with no response. A few minutes later, again no response, so I kept hunting. A lot of iron tones was getting a bit old and I happened on a clad dime at 2 ". Then I continued working the trail which I felt may have been a main rd. into the property. Iron, iron and more iron. One sounds was iffy, so I inspected further only to get a shallow 1 27 reading. As I say, I always dig the surface quarter signals, so I dug.
I certainly did not expect a LC to pop out from under 1"~ I honestly thought I was holding a clad 1/2 dollar. Then I saw the hole in it and thought it was a washer. Further inspection revealed the word "ONE" and I knew what it was. Just amazing that I only scrapped the surface dirt and this target had moved. I picked up a small pile of the soil and ran it over the coil to my surprise. Hope to get a date off of it after it sits in oil a bit. This is # 3 LC sine getting the SE. woo hoo.
I then started calling Scott again to let him know that we needed to search this area...I mean it was his idea to come here. No answer. We were close to a road, but I had no idea where he was. Next I dug a lame tone nearby and pulled a musket ball. Now I was gonna dig almost anything nearby.
About 1/2 hour later, Scott comes walking down the trail. He had been detecting for a bit and was not paying attention to his orientation and became a bit "lost". He hiked and eventually found where we had started. He said he had been looking for the start point for ~ 1 hours and had done very little hunting.
We will return to this place as I am sure there is much more to find here. Thanks Scott for the research, time and effort put in. I can tink of a few finds I would not have if it ere not for him.
Well I cannot get the scan working. Will post as soon as possible.
