Very Impressed With the Sov. GT!

I got my Sov. Tuesday and today I took it on the beach. It wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be. Found many coins and other items but no gold yet. The beach became crowded too fast. Got a nice solid hit with room to spare on a coin that was 12'' deep using the standard coil. Question...Sometimes whenever it hit a target and it nulls. I know that iron will cause it to null but what about deeper targets? Disc 4 notches, sensitivity just out of auto.

I agree about the weight. Sometimes when I start a hunt I can feel it a little, but 30 minutes into the hunt it's not really noticeable. Are you talking about targets that give a signal as well as null or targets that just completely null? I don't use any discrimination (just iron mask), so I don't want to give you an uneducated answer. On the beach though, most of my signal + nulls are usually completely iron or semi-coroded bottle caps.

in my opinion you are running the sesetivity too high if you are just outside of auto you are at maximum sensetivity which should acually cause alot of falsing....usually sensetivity will be set at about 12 oclock give or take depending on conditions.....however if its working good for you the way your using it then maybe you know something i dont....good to hear you are having fun and success with it....

I got the same type of signals on bottle caps also I learnt this today. The sound that I am referring to is like the tone of the threshold changes form a higher pitch to a lower one then back to a higher one. Is the Sov. tracking. Is this what it does when going from dry, to wet sand.

Yes, maybe too much sensitivity.

Herb, the sensitivity is at its max just before you click on auto.As you turn the sensitivity knob clock wise the sensitivity decreases just the opposite of all the other controls. My suggestion take the Sovereign to a worked out park next week and dig 180-176 and 147-142 this should build your confidence.HH Ron

Thanks and will do.

Usually if the target nulls it's going to be iron, or if it gives a tone/null time of response it's probably rusty junk like a bottle cap. However, some say at extreme edges of depth a coin will null completely at the very fringes. Next time you hear a deeper target that is mostly nulling try lowering the sensitivity a good bit and see if it doesn't null anymore and comes through good. There are odd soils/sands where riding the edge of sensitivity can actually cause an overload and cause a target to null out. Rare, but it does happen at certain sites. That's why I like to stick a silver dime say 7 or 8" deep and then play with sensitivity until I get the best ID, as I have found they can null if it's maxed out at some locations. On the other hand, lately I haven't been doing that but rather just maxing out sensitivity and hunting VERY slow...As you need to keep the coil moving slow to avoid the threshold dropping out when riding a somewhat unstable edge in terms of sensitivity. I seem to be getting very good depth this way with my 12x10.
