The C$ is turning out to be a really nice MDer, I hunted a site this evening that was on private land owned by my GF's family. Both us went to test it with only a little over a hour to hunt. She just started a few weeks ago and is hooked on the hobby. This is a old burnout home, from the other homes in that area look to be late 1800's to early 1900's and I remember the house from about 30 years ago when my brother lived in the neighborhood. In the short time we hunted I pulled out 5 coins, and she recovered 3.... Thing was I had to go over to her every time she found something to look. But that was alright too. Her family had told her about finding coins in the dirt when it was plowed a few years ago, and told her when they found out about her new hobby that anything found would be hers and mine. Even after I still offer the coin to they since they are the owners, the answer is the same "it was lost and if you didn't fine it - it would still be lost". The Dollar has dark area's, I'd guess from the heat of the fire.

congratulations sir on a nice find, your the first of i've ever seen to actually find one of these ,how deep was it you think and what was the coinstrike reading?

It was about 8" and that area had been plowed a few years ago. The C$ was reading a solid +42.

That is a great find and one to be proud of. I've found two of that type in 38 years of swinging. They don't come along very often. Yours is in great shape, too. HH jim tn

Rick, I'm not going to cuss you on the forum I'll do that at work! LOL!

But! I would find out how many dollars was found when they plowed the garden, if they only found one or two and you found one then I would say there is a better chance than not of being more of them.
I would say someone had a can, box or jar of them in the house at one time that got lost in the fire, so you probably have ran into a "Coin Cache" that has gotten a little spread out from the plowing.

I Think I would go back to where you found that dollar (exact spot) box it in maybe a ten foot square and DIG everything, maybe even string it off, if you find another one then I would spread out even a little farther. I would also look for remains of some sort of small container that someone would have thought it was a good little silver bank. A lot of people would put silver coins in their jewery box, that's why I think I would dig everything in a ten foot area around the dollar (to start with)

The best I've done so far (after getting back into metal detecting) is to bury a 1852 Large Cent in my test garden this evening that I bought at the flea-market for $4.00 today!

Oh, FYI a large cent reads the same as a quarter at 6" in the ground +31 to +32

I plan to do a better search, we only have a little over a hour to hunt today, they have found no other dollars only dimes and quarters. I think there is more there too, but not sure over the years how much had been found but I know we are the first with MDers.

Thanks Keith, also I was running Mem 2, it was still saved from when you had the detector.

Rick. I don't get to this part of the forum very often. I see you posted on the E-Trac part mostly. I thought I'd better get here and congratulate you on a great find!!! Thanks for the picture and the story too. Any silver makes for a great hunt, add a "Dollar" to it and it takes it to one of the "once in a lifetime" events.
