Very Big Coil

Hi Guys,

I recently watched a Public TV show about the guy who found the 1400 pound meteorite in Kansas. He used a piece of wire tie wrapped to plastic pipe, about 4X8 feet in the shape of a rectangle. I think he attached it to one of the Minelab SD series boxes. He pulled it behind a four wheeler to find meteorites. Anyone know how to build this coil???

I talked to the State Geologists who said that meteorites are evenly spread around the world and could be found in most any farmers field. It think it would be fun to find something 4.5 billion years old.

Thanks Ohio Bud

I did a search and found the stories but there was no mention of how the coil was made.
I too have been researching the large coil. I have decided that buying a 2 box detector is the way to go. Then focus my time in building a non conductive rig to pull behind my golf cart. I think if you buy two 2 box detectors with different frequencies you could cover maybe 6 to 8 feet at a time. Split your headphones for each detector. What do you think?

Kenny,

I would check to see how close you could get the two box coils to each other. My guess is that they would have to be separated even though they are on different frequencies. Maybe you could have them separated by a foot or so without any loss of ground coverage. I think that you will have crossover interference.

I like the idea of using an old cheap used SD box and a piece of wire on a plastic pipe frame. I do not have a four wheeler, so I was just going to pull it.

If you were to go to Kellycos' internet sight and check out the Pulse Star 11 you might find the coil you are looking for

The Book "Rocks From Space" by author O. Richard Norton is a GREAT book for the layman on Meteorites (lots of pics too) and how to Identify them.........Excellent Read (comes in a HardBack Edition also) Amazon.com

I hope I don't get in trouble giving the board this info but this appears a bargain for the type of hunting all of you are discussing. Problem is the auction is about to end. I've checked this out and for the money; it's a steal. The price right now is $950.

Ummm,

Kansas may be the geographical center of the USA,but I'll bet a meteor ignores political boundaries.
