1st thanks again to all who helped me with my compadre and other questions I had,, but the rain was pouring this morning and I almost just stayed home but it dawned on me that the compadre doesn't even have a screen to look at so I just put a plastic bag right over the control unit and off I went.. okay so I tried this tot lot and it was so fun that I went to 2 more,,, I was worrid the cops would come or someone would say something because this was my 1st time and I felt like I was doing something wrong but it was cool and nobody came. anyway I found a total of $3.00 in change, one sterling ring, some kids jewelry, some assorted trash (discrim was on the F for Foil) picked up some glass I saw and it was all pretty cool.

I know I said in previous posts that Tot Lots was not my primary goal but I don't know I think if anything when we get alot of rain I may hit those tot lots because I think the woods will be too muddy and Buggy and the rain will keep the kids and dog walkers or anyone else who is nosey at home.

another thing is I had my wifes Pin Pointer that comes with the F2 Package and it worked great because without it I wouldn't of found 1/2 of these coins I think, I think next purchase is a New pro Pointer or something else thats decent, that and a good digging tool.

Great hunting, maybe I need to go when it's raining ! Nice haul!

Way to go. The Compadre is a great little machine and is especially good for those tot lots. Congrats.

Hey Hank yes you do! the rain was pouring hard with some storm warnings on the news and I had all these places to myself,, I'm sure you guys already do this but a walmart bag over the unit and I just turned the knob from outside and listened,,, my wife has the F2 and she stayed in Bed ah ha ha ha.

oh forgot to mention that I found a 1972 50 cent coin on the top of that left row ,, I never even seen one of these.. I was sticking the coil way under picnic tables to scan under them and it was under the table and against the inside of one of the legs about 4" down.

Congrats on the very good coin count! Tot lots are great. The .50 piece is it US or other? Either way good find! Beale.

I believe I will, I would rather hunt in the rain than the blazing heat any day, yep the Walmart bag does the trick a poor mans rain cover, keep it coming Tajue17, hank

Good hunting. Tot lots can be a lot of fun and often quite productive.

Beale it is US with John Kennedy on it, my father tells me he has a whole coffee can full I just never got into coins and wasn't familar with it but I think finding one in a playground is rare..

When it rains the ground is more conductive, may seem annoying to be drenched all day but what a bonus!

Hi Tajue17, Gongrats on your first Tot Lot hunt with the Compadre in the rain ! You sure have persistence and true grit and it paid off big time ! I would like to pass along a tip I learned from DIGGER27 at Friendly Metal Forums in regard to hunting for small targets buried up close to the large metal legs and support frames of Tot Lot equipment. This could also be applied to other large metal in parks, such as metal basketball poles, metal benches and picnic tables, chain-link fences at baseball diamonds, etc., etc.. This tip will help you overcome the problem of the large metal trying to mask the return signal from relatively small targets like coins and jewelry. This problem causes most detectorists to give up trying to hunt around any large metal, missing the good stuff there. Here's the route to the tip: Friendly Metal Detecting Forums > Detectors and Gear > How to Use Your Metal Detector > Target Masking Question Just use the Search tool and enter "Target Masking Question" You are off to a good start ! Keep learning and practicing ! Todd

Basically, that tip is listen for a double beep with that Compadre near big metal.
That Digger27 guy knows some stuff. :)
