Velox

Silver Pirate

Nobody talking about this one??? I live in Mississippi. Very rich in Civil War history. 90% of what I hunt is CW relics. We just simply don't have the coinage history that you guys up in New England have. It seems to me that with the simplicity of the Velox, paired with that 16" coil would be a deep seeking relic hunters dream machine. What are your thoughts? There is a Demo model at Kellyco that is cheap enough to buy and play with it. But I would really like to get some more input on that machine. Only a handful of English videos on YouTube, others are foreign.

I wasn't familiar with this one SilverPirate so I looked it up on NokMak site.
17.5KHz machine so it is running pretty close to the Relic at 19KHz.
You might be better served by adding a FORS CORE, (15KHz), to your detector arsenal as it would compliment the Relic and offer somewhat different performance parameters. Just a thought.
Cheers,
Drew.

I only have 3 coils for my Relic: The most-used 5" DD, the sometimes-used 5X9½ DD, and the almost never-used standard 7X11 DD

Along with my two Relic's I have two CoRe units as well, and for it I have the 5X9½ DD on one of them for occasional use in sparse-target locations, and the smaller 'OOR' DD is on my most-used CoRe. Also in my Accessory Coil Tote is my occasionally used standard 7X11 DD, but for serious work when Cache Hunting, other contract searches or should I work a site with known deeper located reasonable-sized targets, I mount the FORS CoRe 14X15 DD which has worked well for me the few times it was called into action.

I agree with you on the suggestion for him to add a CoRe rather than the Velox, and I am sure he can either find an excellent deal on a Pro Pack CoRe or find a never-used bigger coil someone has for sale if he only found a standard CoRe offer.

Silver Pirate,

I have a Velox and really like it, and have had mine for almost two years. I was looking for something with strong performance, easy to use and no VDI. After watching a number of You Tube videos and reading the reviews I chose this and have not been disappointed. This is one of those detectors that slipped by without much notice which is unfortunate since is such a good detector. The quality of the Velox is like the other Nokta/Makro machines, very well made and of sturdy construction. Hopefully others with this detector will chime in on the conversation. I use mine mostly for relic hunting and occasional coin and jewelry hunting. I have a Tesoro Compadre with the 5 3/4 coil I still prefer for the park and tot lot hunts. As you know this is a 3 tone machine which works well for me, however as with some 2 & 3 tone machines, some may have issues telling the difference between the mid and high tone depending on their hearing, if that case it's a good 2 tone! I also have the 5 & 9 inch coils for different hunting conditions and keep the 9 inch on most of the time since it works so well for me. The Velox is capable of very good depth and does well picking the good targets out of the trash, at least for me. If you are looking for a good none VDI machine with good performance for the price range this is a worthy unit to consider. Nokta/Makro has also earned a great reputation for their customer service and support which made my decision easier. Let us know what you decide.

Thanks for your input everyone, I really appreciate it. What appealed to me about the Velox was the lack of "fluff". Just a few knobs, a switch or two and go. Perfect for a machine to hand to a friend that's never done this and is interested enough to go on a hunt with me. Seems to only have 2 available coils. KellyCo has a demo model that is cheap enough to get it to play with. I know I just got the Relic last week, but I am already eyeballing the Impact because of the 5khz. If I remember right, my Whites XLT is at 6.5khz which I really like. The 19khz of the Relic, i think, is the highest Ive ever used.

Impact is the best option of the three in my opinion, I recently picked one up and it is an impressive machine.
Covers quite a few bases with 5, 14, and 20KHz, and as you are a relic kind of hunter it has some really effective all metal modes as well, 12 search modes in all!
Check out Lawrenzo's vids as he has done very well with his Impact.
There are some for sale with good accessory packages at very attractive prices floating around too.
Cheers,
Drew.

I noticed several times that you mention 'the rarely used 11x7". Why are you not a fan of that coil? Just wondering. I wasn't a fan of the 9" spider concentrics of Whites. I guess its a preference thing. This morning I ordered the 10x5 concentric as many have suggested. By the way.. What is the "OOR" coil I have seen mentioned?

Thanks for the recommendations. I wonder why Nokta went with the external battery instead on in the box?

Yeah, I wish I had spent the extra $$ and got the Impact. It will definitely be my next purchase. My birthday is at Christmas, so maybe a combo present to myself? But don't take that as meaning that I am unhappy with my Relic. On the contrary. Its a very nice machine and I look forward to learning it more in depth this Fall/Winter.

Congrats on ordering the 5½X10 Concentric before they are too hard to find. A very good mid-sized coil.

The 9" Concventric on a White's is a favorite of mine as a mid-sized coil to serve as a 'standard' size and it was the back-up to the most often used 6½" coil for me.

The 7X11 DD, from any brand, or most 10" or 12" round coils, DD or Concentric, are maybe a 'standard' offering but they are what I consider a 'larger-size' coil for very open places with no or very little metal targets. They tend to be heavier and less comfortable to me. But I'm older and not healthy, and impaired mobility has had me using a cane for over a quarter-century so I make it a point to use better-balanced and comfortable detectors. Mid-sized coils tend to serve me just bas well in most open and sparse-target areas such as the 5X9½ DD open frame coils on my CoRe and Relic models or the 7" Concentric on an Anfibio Multi. I go to a 7X11 or a round 11" DD coil when I have a want or need and conditions are favorable for better performance from them.

An 'OOR' coil is the smaller DD coil that was available for the FORS CoRe or original Racer models. I have used the term 'OOR' going back to when Tesoro introduced their 8X9 coil to replace the round 8" coil. It isn't a pronounced elliptical design, but instead looks like a simply 'Out-Of-Round shape. That term caught on when I started using it to describe the FORS CoRe's smaller coil which measures about 4.7X5.2 so it isn't a round 5" DD coil like I have mounted on my most used Relic, it is just a slightrly 'OOR' DD coil that I use on my CoRe.
