VDI solid 66

I was not able to dig this signal and it has been making me crazy ever since. Can anyone give me an Idea what a VDI of 66 may be? At-PRO showing 8'' deep

Could be danged near anything!! The deeper a target gets, the less accurate the VDI is. Usually tends to drop lower the deeper it is. If it were at 2-4", ringtabs and mens gold wedding bands fall in that catagory, but at 8", might be a danged zinc penny. Dig it up, let us know.

Was it loud or faint? A coin or ring sized target at 8 inches should be faint. If you have not, see what it sounds like in the Pro Mode. There is only one way you are going to know for sure..... Dig.

The target is in a real nice ball field about 10 feet passed third base. It sounds off quiet but I can still hear it clearly. This field was established in 72 or 73. I have been trying the pop up method of retrieval but am no good at it. This target is to deep for that and I'm a little Leary about cutting a plug in the field. I may just do it anyway so I can sleep. LOL

Wait til after the season and be neat. I have cleaned up at some ball fields in the near outfield.

The large male feline is RIGHT........there isn't any automatic identifications by any of the VDI #'s.............I've dug LOTS of degraded zincolns that VDI at 66. The ones that look like somebody used a welder on.......then again I got surprised and dug a tiny Ag filigree ring with that VDI number......only one way to find out......DIG IT.

Could me danged near anything.......might even be one of those aluminium engines out of a 1972 Vega..........

Split the hide (turf), dig out the guts (dirt) and put on a rag, retrieve your treasure, put the guts from the rag back in the hole, and close your incision. Done right nobody will be any of the wiser, 'cept us:thumbup: and we ain't talkin:crylol:

I get 66 VDI on a type of aluminum pull tab. I think it's off a can of fruit. It's common around lunch areas at schools. Every time I get this signal, I guess that it's one of those larger pulltabs. So far I am batting 100%. And due to their circular ring like structure, they will give a strong signal at greater depths. Now some good targets as well as some bad targets bad can show no limitations on VDI readings. So anyone, "please" prove me wrong and show me a good ring or coin at 66.

Let us know what it was if u decided to dig it ? Hope its not a 72 Vega, its probly got a cracked block:rofl:

You guys are dating yourself if you know about Vega Aluminum blocks...I guess I just did too!! Now if you know that after they bored them and put in SS sleeves they were a lot better, then you probably know too much about Vega's!! I guess I do!!

I get home from work on Tuesday. My plan is to go to the field and dig up my Gold ring / Vega engine block that evening. Quarterhorse, I have also found chain link pieces near the schools but they never rang in a solid tone for me, very bouncy.

Well, I have not been able to dig the signal yet. I went back to the area yesterday and found my AT is having the same old trouble it has had in the past. This is a new unit so I am very surprised and disappointed. Can't pin point. When I press the PP button all i get is a solid hum and a max depth reading. I lift the coil above my head, away from anything metal and get the same results. I press the PP button to change frequency and get a screaming noise. I can change the freq. some times and have went through all of them, same results. I reset back to factory options and it works one or two times and then back to screaming when i press the PP button. Anyway, I'll go back with my MXT, that works all the time by the way, and I'' try to dig it asap. Greg
