VDI Signals at the Beach

Hello,

This is my first post to this forum. I am a new MD and bought the MXT about 4 mos ago. Living in Florida Jacksonville is great, but soo hot here in July. Anyway. My Questions are: When on the beach I often get a loud signal in CJ mode but no VDI readout. I use the MXT300 with the 12" coil. Is the target too deep? Not related but have any of you have the arm unit wobble in the cradle even when the round knobs are tightened. I would like to drill an additional hole to insert another set screw , but unit is under warranty.

This machine really cleans up at tot parks, like Sherman's march through the south. Like to get out today to the beach but temp is 96 degrees. I appreciate all your great input.

Here are three possible explanations for the loud signal & no VDI. You could be getting an overload signal from a very large target that is fairly shallow. You might have your gain set a bit too high causing an occasional false signal. Also I have gotten what you describe in areas with hot rocks.

A wobbly elbow cup bothers me too. I do not believe you will need to drill any extra holes. Gently press the ends of the cup toward each other while tightening the nut. It usually only takes just a slight bit more of a turn on that nut to snug up the elbow cup.

Good luck
Bob

Some people like to put a piece of electrical tape inside of the arm cuff, But I just squeeze the cuff together a little too, works fine for me.

This problem with the arm cuff is something Whites engineering needs to address. Either a larger bolt or two bolts would solve the problem. It really shows up and is annoying while relic hunting in the thick woods.
