VDI- READING FOR PLATNIUM

Anyone know what the VDI reading might be for Platnium, and/or does it sound the same as any metal found? I was just told the area I'm going prospecting in in July is the hotest spot in the U.S. for platnium. At $2200.00 and oz., I'm going to be hunting. :detecting:

I don't know about platinum nuggets but the platinum rings are in the 0 - 15 range. Rob

Its about like gold it depends on the size of the nugget. But you should pick it up from 0 to 30 on the VDI + numbers. Please let us know if you find any!!

Why not use the prospecting mode and let the machine tell you the percentage of iron? That was the the VDI reading wouldn't matter. I think that would be the best way to prospect for platinum in nugget form.

I've never found or owned any platinum, but I've been told the same as what Rob said. Good luck at the hot spot. HH to all, Nancy

MontanaMatt is correct the best way would be using the prospecting mode. I was just answering your question on what the VDI reading would be.

Thanks for all the help. I was reading "THE MXT EDGE" book and figure because it's also around the gold region as being non-conductive, it might read around the same. I plan on using the prospecting mode, hoping to find some gold. I would love to hit a nugget of Platnium, just knowing I found one would be a charge. By the way, I was telling a friend about getting the MXT, and he was doubting the machine until he started reading a few post that you all wrote.:clapping:

I had found a mans platinum wedding band and it's VDI was 24 solid with great tone and was about 4 1/2 to 5" down in wet sand at a salt water beach.. The band was in a large size but it's really a small ring looking at it but the weight is surprising at .47oz! Good stuff platinum is! Oh by the way last I checked it was down by $200 bucks.. But still at over $2000 a oz it's still worth holding on too for me..Oh I was using a DFX and in a modified coin beach jewelry program.. But it rung up with a VDI of 22 in coin jewelry program on my wife's MXT I just checked!! Hope this helps.. If your digging nickles and pull tabs you'll find platinum just fine! Not to worry!! Good luck!!George

They indicated that they went to a specific area, the only one in NSW, Australia that it has been commonly found despite have a lot of gold fields in our state, and found half a dozen nuggets between them. They said that platinum in it's natural state, looks like lead and that it gives a weak silver signal. They also indicated that only a VLF machine will pick it up.
Good luck with your quest, but do some good research before you start, so that you have at least a half descent chance.
