VDI ? on x 70

Hello every body. I have a x-terra 70 why does the vdi number change to a lower number when i go to pin point. Like vdi 6 will drop to -2 when i go to pin point or 32 to 22. I am new to mine-lab detectors always used a whites xlt.
 
During pinpoint, to ID correctly, the coil must be moving. Practice a little with swing speed & distance and you'll pick it up.

I noted if you have a DD coil, you need to pinpoint in a couple of directions or move to/from you as well once pinpointed on the side-to-side. Why? The DD has a strip down the center. You may have pinpointed the item, but it could be at the wrong end of the coil.

DOH! (not that I have ever done anything like that mind you!)
